Does anybody have maps that show old Banadir before Siad Barre re-arranged things?

Actually, I would love to see maps from the 50s, or the 60s era that shows the entire South before SB created new gobols and resettled ppl into them.

Somaliweyn has it stored somewhere, you can ask him. i have seen it before, and if i can remember correctly, i think the whole banaadir region use to include some nearby towns from the shabelle regions like afgooye, jowhar, balcad and some other towns. shirib knows about it too.

I advocate for reconstructing Banaadir and South Somalia to what it was prior to Siad Barre.

Demure, as much as i'd like to agree with you, i don't think that would be possible. Many regions in Somalia were changed around and altered prior to Siyad Barre's gov't, so if one region tries to do so, others will follow suit.

Anyway, i like Somalia with it's 18 regions. It makes us look more like a dignified nation, instead of having semi autonomous/ de fact states with their own clan borders which is often disputed. Have you seen my thread about solving Somalia's problem both on a national level and a regional level?

I don't have the map but old Banadir was what is now Banadir and both Shabelle Hoose and Dhexe. I'll try to get the map soon

How many regions were there at that time before it was altered and changed around?

There were originally 8 regions

Banadir: now Banadir, Shabelle Hoose, Shabelle Dhexe

Upper Jubba: now Baay Bakool, Gedo

Lower Jubba: now Jubada boose, Jubada dhexe

Hiiraan: still Hiiraan though border might have changed a little, not sure

Mudug: now Mudug and Galgaduud

I don't know what the 3 northern regions were called, or what they now consist of

Alto Guiba is Upper Juba in Italian. Migiutinia I think is trynna say Majeerteenia.

Sorry for the late response, I have been busy lately. I read your other topic and I disagree with you. Clannism is not gonna go away anytime soon, therefore, your solution is not going to work right off the bat. I think the first step of going forward is to eliminate this dependency we all have on each other and on this one central government. Somaliland and Puntland already declared independent states, I think we the South should follow suit, after a little rearrangement/resettlements of ppl in the South and clear definitions of the borders. The Isaaq can stay in their North West, the Daaroods should all be in the same area as well, North East, and perhaps part of central Somalia, therefore, all those currently lounging in the South, should be reunited with their cousins up North. Now the Hawiye and all the rest of the real Southern clans should remain in central and south Somalia, and they can either chose to be one state or two. So at the end their should be a total of 3 or 4 autonomous states.


Let all the different clans/groups prosper and thrive independetly before we attempt a united Somalia, lets build our future from the groud up for once. I believe we can truely unite only after each clan/group is independent economically, and has developed on it's own, and not a moment before then.

But contrary to your little fantasy, Daroods have more land in the South than the Hawiye. Jubbaland is bigger than the small parts of Banadir, Shabeeloyinka and Hiiraan that hawiyes live. And I am certain Raxanwein people and the other Somali clans of the South do not want to share any region with the same Hawiye who committed a genocide on them by killing off over 500,000 of their members.

Even if this idea of yours was to be implemented, who would have carried it out and who is capable of implementing it? Caydid, with Somalia's entire arsenal at his disposal, tried a similar program of Darood ethnic cleansing from the South and failed miserably when he was defeated in every single front.

In turn, he managed to kill off a large part of the Hawiye population in Somalia by creating endless wars and instability in the regions they lived in that continue on to this very day. Those kinds of bad ideas should not be uttered and should stay where they are, in sick twisted minds, because they do not bear any useful fruits for anyone, especially those they are designed to benefit.

Siyad Barre, Allah ha u naxariisto, did not make "Banadirians" lose a single inch of land to anyone. The same regions that existed before were renamed so that representation could be distributed fairly to the people of these regions who were fighting over representation. It was something that was necessary at the time to keep the peace and get the nation to move forward.
