Demure,
You have raised very interesting points.
Like Abakar20 and you have pointed out to: Banadir is characterized by diversity. This is the core characteristic of the region, and we should not see it as a disadvantage but look at the many advantages it offers.
First, there is diversity in the group composition of the region. There are many different groups as already pointed out to earlier.
Despite this diverse group composition, we can safely say that the region is characterized by high degree of harmony and peacefull coexistence between the different groups when compared to the other regions in Somalia.
Also, the different groups who live in Banadir region never committed the crime of landexpansion at the cost of their neighbours or any other group. And there is no generational animosity between any of the groups in Banadir, as is the case in other regions of Somalia between the different groups that live there.
So in short, the groups in Banadir are characterized by their harmonious way of coexistence and their peacefull nature. You will not find any Somali who will complain about the harshness or hostile mentality of a group in Banadir. On the contrary, most Somalis appreciate and respect the calm and peacefull temper of the groups in Banadir. Above all, their hospitality has resulted in a major influx of Somalis from all corners of Somalia into Banadir region.
Second, there is diversity in the economy of Banadir.
The region is known for:
- its fertile lands and dynamic agriculture,
- its historic Banadir coast and their links to the Indian Ocean trade through the dynamic port-cities of Warsheikh, Mogadishu, Merca and Baraawe.
- its commercial activity in cities
- its pastoral economy in arid and semi-arid lands of Banadir region
This diversity in the regional economy is very advantageous to Banadir region and its inhabitants and a strong basis for a prosperous New Banadir.
Demure has also presented a sound analysis of the threats facing New Banadir administration.
You should have only called point 4, not ''other Somalis'' but ''predatory Somali groups''.
Since 1991, there were predatory Somali groups from Central Somalia who have brought disaster to Banadir region. On top of that, the main group in Banadir, Mudulood have in some instances participated in creating this disaster, and in other instances looked the other way when predatory groups were invading and occupying L.Shabelle. A prime example of the crimes that were committed by ''armed groups of Mogadishu'' and the shamefull silence and inactive by Mudulood was the terrible fate that Reer Xamar folks have witnessed post-1991. On one side, they have lost many lives and property since they found themselves amids warrying factions and could not defend themselves. On the other side, they have been forgotten in the political landscape of the city. Mudulood subclans have laid a claim on Mogadishu while conveniently overlooking their centuries-old neihgbours Reer Xamar who have equal claim if not larger claim on the city.
We have to analyze the events of post-1991 and its impacts on Banadir region, if we are serious about creating a New Banadir Administration.
Lastly, as Demure again hit the nail on its head:
Banadir region is a unique case in Somalia, and as such cannot draw examples from the Somaliland, Puntland and Galmudug models. Banadir region must have its own unique and distinctive model for regional development.

Abakar and Warsan,
Couldn't the economy of Banadir still flourish though, even without the seat of the capital?
We should shy away from the tradition that for a city to be successful; it has to be near the capital or the capital, on the contrary, we should promote independence and self reliance not only on a regional level but also on a city level.
In any case, I'm all for a regional Banadir Administration that honors the pre-Said Barre boundaries. An Administration built on the common goals of its cities, and that fosters a culture of hard work in all of its citizens.
I’m however, undecided on the role of Mogadishu. If Mogadishu “as the capital of Somalia” is allowed to govern itself, who then should govern it? Ppl of Banadir or anybody who is Somali can?
I heard all the 'Big' brain is located in Ceel Dhere, so I'm thinking the New Banadir administration should get the full benefit....

I should be more generous.

Yes definitely, without no doubt the economy can flourish without having Mogadishu as the capital. Simply because we have vital resources in the Banadir region.
If Mogadishu is to be the capital of Somalia then any Somali can govern it, but anything Mogadishu does will probably have some affect on the Banadir region, so the New Banadir admin should have the 'right' to object to anything that harms them. Also the majority of those in Xamar are actually from other regions in Banadir, so they are actually governing it de-facto.
Personally, I would like to see a strong connected South.
Salaam

Oke folks,
Another issue:
Can we rightfully say that Banadir region has a unique culture different then other parts of SOmalia? In other words, is there a Banadir culture?
Banadir cuisine, literature/poetry (shirib), clothings, city-life, songs, way of life is unique. Even the accent which other Somalis call ''Reer Konfuureed, or Xamarawi'' is part of this distinct Banadir culture.
Can we say that the different Banadir groups despite their difference in clan structure and economic occupation share a Banadir culture?
I look forward to your views.
PS: Shirib, I want your input too.

Banadir culture u are reffering to I think is only really around Xamar, among the Geledi, Wacdaan, Murusade and Abgaal around who lived around Xamar. Once you move from there I think it becomes different.

Shirib,
The Reer Xamar share the same culture as those from Merca, Barawe etc. So on the coastal Banadir cities we got an ancient city-culture which has its unique twist in every city. For example, Xamar city-live is different then Merca city-life yet both have the same ancient Banadir city-culture.
Can we say that Banadir groups share the same overal Banadir culture?
More importantly,
Is there a Banadir culture to speak of?

Yes they do, but I think that has to do with different things, such as original origins.
But to speak further I don't think there is one collective Banadir culture. Geledi and Wacdaan, Abgaal etc. share some cultures that are the same. While Geledi share similar cultures with Shantacaleemood, Bagadi, Jiida etc. But Shantacaleemood, Jiida etc. don't share much with Wacdaan, Abgaal etc. Do u get my drift

SO there is also diversity in culture?
Despite that diversity can we say there is a ''Banadir culture''' which means that Banadir region has a different way of life or doing things then the other regions of Somalia?

With the exception of cuisines which is distinctive in the South, there are some variations in the cultures within Banadir from reer Xamar, Bantu, and other somalis. But after almost 20 yrs of war and many new settlers from central Somalia, there maybe a new culture in place nowadays.

The Banaadiri's are made up of communities of diverse origin bounded together by centuries of common tradition, values and beliefs. The mainstay of the Banaadiri culture is peaceful coexistence, hard work and loyalty based on neighbourhood and deep association to their locality rather than blood affiliation. Read on my thread about the historical culture of the Banaadir people which desbribes the cultural aspects in more detail.

Well spoken.
Banadir region has been known for its diversity and hospitality to otherr SOmalis, this tradition will not be broken.
As for Banadir administration, the local groups in Banadir should run it.
