Banaadiri/Cad-Cad/reer Xamar/Gibil-Cad/rer Shingaani/Shaanshi, etc etc etc all are names who interchange in the historical context to mean the non-pastoral mixed-race proto-Swahili descent people from the coast of Merka, Baraawe, and Muqdisho.
Abgaal, Murusade, and other clans who historical settled near them are not even called those names either. The only name which seems to be undergoing a new definition is "reer Xamar".
Historically reer Xamar were the people of Hamarweyne, the old Swahili district entirely people by the Swahili descent people we know as "Cad-cad/Gibil cad". Post-independence it came to define the people of Italian Somaliland in comparison to "rer Hargeisa" or people of British Somaliland. Post-civil war it was attempted to define it as the Hawiye people when compared with the Darod people. Colloquially during that time in conversation it reverted back to mean the gibil-cad. It means that right now once again.
Those names have nothing to do with pastoral cultured Somali clans like Dir, Darod, Isaaq, Hawiye, etc.
