Offer more reasonable prices and bring competiotion, then buy the smaller companies out.

I see fighting ! These folks wont give in easily. The easiest way is to sell wholesale power to them and they can do the distribution at retail level.

Its only business. You can't fight a company because your customers are attracted to it. Selling wholesale power might be a bit too sophisticated to do in Somalia right now and wouldn't that will only increase the electricity prices in the city?

What f-king current power operators ? The power operators they use somalia are just big ass motors who use bensin or gas. Thats why electricity is so expensive in Somalia. If this investment is true then its blessing to normal people as electricity gets much cheaper. I hope its true !

There r two main power distributors in xamar, Somali Electric and Somali Energy ( a hormuud backed company) the latter bought the former and I think they r same guys who gona build this power plant.

There r number of issues here, Power generation can privatized but the distribution business should be public or semi public other wise common man will pay dear.

Daadi,

We need safeguards as you pointed out. Perhaps, the smarter option is that the government be a shareholder in the utilities, say 30%.

Abdiwahab: The problem is we don't have institutions that can protect us neither do we have people who understand these issues so a lot of public basic companies will be sold to Valtures.

Daadi,

Yep. I do believe that the government has to introduce some regulation on these major corporations such as pollution mitigation, force telephone companies to set up an interchange that allows consumers of all carriers to call each other, charging the phone/tv/radio companies for using the public spectrum.

This government doesn't need aid. It just needs the will to enforce taxation, regulation, and provide market stability.
