Somaliland Police Arrest A Religious Preacher

Hargeisa, 4 April 2009 (somalilandpress) - The security forces of the Republic of Somaliland arrested a religious preacher to question him after he reportedly called people to come against the government. Sheikh Abdillahi Mohamoud was arrested Friday evening from his house and still remain in custody.

Sources close to the Police told Somalilandpress that the Sheikh as been calling a religious war against Somaliland government saying they have the best chance now to wage war against Somaliland during the political crisis in the country. Police said Sh. Abdillahi will be questioned about the issue.

Somaliland has been hit by a political crisis since last week when the Guurti announced that they extended the government’s term for about 6 months. This has created a tension among the population and the security forces are careful that Extremists might benefit the situation and carry out terror attacks against the government institutions.
