* More than 73% of the Somaliland population live in poverty and 43% in extreme poverty and unemployment are widespread.
* The GDP per head is $226 a head per year. If this figure is divided by 365 days, one can clearly see that people are living on below $1 a day.
* More than 78% of the population have no access to healthcare.
* There are just 61 doctors and 222 nurses in whole country, meaning one doctor per 20,278 and one nurse per 5600 people. All these are urban based.
* 1 out of 4 Somaliland children dies before the age of five
* Somaliland women are 22 times more likely to die in childbirth than European women are.
* Over thousand of children are maimed, because of land mines
* Over thousands of Somaliland people are suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome
* They are malnourished, disease-prone and psychologically scarred by the devastation's of war.
* Only 17% primary school enrolment, that is, 83% of children in Somaliland are not in school and almost has no education.
* Adult literacy is 25% and 75% of adults cannot read or write.
* Only 28% of the population has access to clean water

But i will focus on the puntland pirates they have brought in $200 million dollars into the economy of puntland stabilizing shilling from inflation and thus the puntland economy is thriving unlike smellyland where the currency is dead. The living standards in puntland is alot higher then then living standards in somaliland according to the united nations and business and prosperity is more in puntland then somaliland... :

Please don't get angry anyone i just wanted to clarify facts and i have provided reputable sources from aid agencies and respected news sources like abc...if you don't like it well tough luck but thats the fact won't change..."somaliland wey dushay" is just myth...facts on the ground tell of a HELL-HOLE...Whilst puntland is prospering economically, politically, and even in medicine and science departments whilst remaining loyal to their somali roots.Not to mention the educated puntlanders abroad like myself and many others who will continue to contribute and make puntland the next dubai..my specialty is "network engineering" so i am hoping one today to build broadband network to connect every house to the internet and starting remote distant learning centers for literacy and maths for even nomads using online technology..inshallah....The Future is bright, the future is Puntland clap:

firsr of all let get the record straight...when ur bringing facts to an educated argument to raise ur so-called status in this forum, one will assume that you will bring updated facts..just start about the population (hint:figure out the total of the last election registration less 5% for double registration or better yet get an updatre version of the estimated population online...basically you have to do your won research instead of me giving you those datas but it is higher that what u have stated)..

secondly most of the facts were stats received from 1999... now i know that the article you have was written in 2009 but if you actually had time to READ it you will see that most of those data are called historical facts meaning that they are dated further than two years hence they're not reliable, to say the least less likely....

thirdly when it comes to claiming datas from puntland are you seriously expecting us to believe that they're unbiased, since those agencies are from puntland and not recognize NGO...basically if you comapring facts, how ever wrong they are, one has to compare facts taken in the same study or in this case from the same NGO's, preferably international ones...

At last I just wanted to let you know that championning piracy and how much they brought to puntland and using that number for statical purpose, well in that case you all asumptions falls flat to the grounds faster than a fat women (not used for deragatory way but use metamorphically)... NOW UNDERSTAND , if you can, but if one will assume that 200 millions dollars as came into puntland economy who has a population less than 2 millions then that will make technically 100$ each citizens but since thats the not the case and we dont live in just world and that some will take 200$ alone and others will have 0$ it will have negative effects on the GDP however it will increase GDP. ALL I AM TELLING YOU IS THAT PUNTLAND WITHOUT THE PIRATE MONEY WILL BE STATISTICALLY AND ECONOMICALLY LOWER THAN SOMALILAND...NO DISRESPECT BUT NEXT TIME WHEN YOU ONE TO HAVE A EDUCATIONAL AND RASONABLE CONVERSATION I WILL SUGGEST YOU TO BRING TRUTHFUL FACTS AND YOUR A GAME...
