Congresman Donald Payne on Ethiopia, Somaliland & Djibouti

Postby Salah Al-Din » Sat Mar 27, 2010 9:35 pm

"My concerns over Somalia, Sudan, Nigeria, and elsewhere are well known. So I will instead highlight troubling issues in three other countries - Ethiopia, Somaliland, and Djibouti...The Government of Somaliland in February handed over a woman named Mrs. Bishaaro [bih- SHAH-ro], a registered refugee in Somaliland, to Ethiopian security forces. A few years ago she was arrested and tortured by Ethiopian security and her husband was executed. I understand there is a delegation visiting from Somaliland currently and hope to learn what the U.S. position is on this case and on Somaliland more broadly."

Dear lord what is this evil that we've done?

The CIA’s use of torture—both directly and by proxy—is an open secret.
AN executive jet is being used by the American intelligence agencies to fly terrorist suspects to countries that routinely use torture in their prisons.

The movements of the Gulfstream 5 leased by agents from the United States defence department and the CIA are detailed in confidential logs obtained by The Sunday Times which cover more than 300 flights.

Countries with poor human rights records to which the Americans have delivered prisoners include Egypt, Syria and Uzbekistan, according to the files.

So on what moral grounds can they object to Somalilands wrong doings

I think cong Payne 's got a point , no harm in asking questions ! We shouldn't be all defensive like that  We fuck up from time to time like everybody else . I dunno wether it was right or wrong , but I don't think it was a great idea .

My concerns over Somalia, Sudan, Nigeria, and elsewhere are well known. So I will instead highlight troubling issues in three other countries - Ethiopia, Somaliland, and Djibouti........I will speak more detail on all three countries during the question and answer portion of this hearing.
