Actually it looks more similar to boorama, garowe ain't that green (from the pics I have seen of it)

Neither Garowe nor Lascanood are particularly desert nor "green." They sit on the same plateau on the same point in the equator, which is exactly why they were once considered the same region, based off the valley that runs through them. Those pictures of Lascanood were taken during the rainy season, otherwise it looks "dry" as you described. Even the driest places like southern Bari look like the Congo during rainy season. Below are pictures of Garowe during rainy season, you'll find the same darkness, hills and some greenery - Somali soil is easy at soaking up rain, for 3 months every year the whole country looks tropical.

The place is virtually surrounded by mountains and hills, that's why i thought it would be cold considering it practically being located in a valley. I remember going camping a few years ago in the furthest parts of the Belgian Alps towards the French Alps. Our sleeping area was surrounded by mountains and it was almost impossible to sleep at night due to the cold.
