MSB was removed from power by the USA and European countries after they cut off all economic and military aid, encouraged Arab countries to do similar which they followed, and at the sametime increased the funding and arming to the rebel groups. It is not a secret as American officials in Somalia in the late 80s and early 1990s admitted it.
True. The world become unipolar. Washington had no need for Somalia any longer and didn't feel like supporting a dictator that continued to abuse human rights.

It is a simple equation really.

Fah is so innocent. Is there a US-backed dictator that respected human rights? In Washington, the more people you torture the better candidate you are to receive aid. :|

yeah right the US and others are responsible for saids departure.

Its all due to the SNM, without 3/4 of the Somali army up there in the north do you think siad would have fallen?
A single clan fought the somali army to a standstill, nobody can deny that.
That it was mainly due to the logistical nightmare it was to keep an army maintained all the way up north,
but thats war.

All that was needed to allow siads regime to survive was for the SNM to negotiate a ceasefire.

if siad managed to withdraw even a quarter of the army back to xamar , do you think the USC would have gotten anywhere?

basically we had our hands full keeping the siad regime tied down and incapacitated.
We needed allies to just walk in and cut off the head..

the USC served this purpose..

its not our fault that they went wild and lost cohesion and unleashed the mooryans onto the world..

Blame it allon the MOD regime.

What a lie, I admit USC were strong and they're the ones who did the most work, USC had many ex Hawiye army soldiers. SNM were a guerrilla force at best and strolled in after USC took down government

in hindsight, if i was in siads position i would have withdrawn the army in 1989 and built up the clan militias in the north, the Dhulos and Warsengali were given weapons and support so were the gadabursi but this was not enough.
They should have been sent a training team and heavier weapons..

The dhulos and gadabursi performed terribly against the SNM even though they were better armed and in their own homes..

with the north simmering i would then wipe out the USC.
The USC was given a boost when allot of ex army hawiye that were stationed in the north were allowed to return home with thier weapons and allot of them joined adideeds millitia giving him allot of technical skills and trained men. The SNM also shared thier loot of captured tanks and other heavy weapons with the USC after 1990.

So in 1989 the USC is a small force and irritant really, and siad could have crushed them thourougly,
and then turn back his attention north for a second round showdown with the SNM by 1991...

The SNM had a policy of no negotiations or recognition of Siads regime, so there was no chance there for talks,
but omar jesss's SPM could have been swayed, also allot of Hawiye clans could have been sweet talked..

I think uptill 1989-90 siad still had a good chance of surving if he made the difficult choices.

The SNM seized numerous vehicles such as Toyota Land Cruisers from government forces and subsequently equipped them with light and medium weapons such as 12.7mm and 14.5mm machine guns, 106mm recoilless rifles, and BM-21 rocket launchers. The SNM possessed antitank weapons such as Soviet B-10 tubes and RPG- 7s. For air defense the SNM mujahidiin operated Soviet 30mm and 23mm guns, several dozen Soviet ZU23 2s, and Czech-made twin-mounted 30mm ZU30 2s. The SNM also maintained a small fleet of armed speed boats that operated from Maydh, fifty kilometers northwest of Erigavo, and Xiis, a little west of Maydh. Small arms included 120mm mortars and various assault rifles, such as AK-47s, M-16s, and G-3s.

To weaken Afwaynes regime further, the SNM encouraged the formation of other clan-based insurgent movements and provided them with political and military support. In particular, the SNM maintained close relations with the United Somali Congress (USC

Siyaad became preoccupied with daily survival. In January 1991,Siyaad ran away to seek asylum among his own clansmen. Outside Mogadishu, all the main clans with access to the vast stores of military equipment in the country set up their own spheres of influence. In May 1991 the SNM, having secured control of the former British Somaliland northern region, declared an independent "Somaliland Republic."
