As of 2009, the city's population is 170,000 people.

Anyone know if this is the true population of the town or not.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source if there is no reference on the bottom of the page anybody can write there what they want you out of all people should know that.
If you are interested you can look for undp district, region & town population 2005, 2008 estimations.Or the 2001 Somaliland referendum results.
