Before the British and Italians arrived, what was the name? According to Islam, 1430 years ago, the entire area (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti) was called "Ardul Habash" or "Habasha-Land".

there was also french somaliland. conquerer, the territory inhabited by somalis today has had different names over the centuries. ive seen maps from the 1700s dividing the whole somali peninsula into Ajan and Adal, some maps called somalia the land of berbers, some simply divided the land into zeila and Mogadoxo (mogadishu).

The Arabs used to call it Ardu al xabasha but the the people in the horn had different empires the Ethiopians had the Abyssinian Empire Solomonic dynasty the Eritreans had the medra bahri sultanate. The Somalilanders and Djiboutians had the walashma dynasty and adal empire , in Somalia u had the Ajuraan empire , and in the north you had the Majeertenia sultanate but that is the most recent one the majeerteen sultanate started in the 1860s.
