Types of Somaliland soil

Post by Siciid85 »

So i had this document of the different Somaliland soils and many other informative files on my hard disk before it got attacked by a deadly virus few months ago
then boom! many files were gone. :( On top of that the USB where some of the files were stored has also broken  . I could no longer find the original 1 that i had.
This one will do for now even though. M = leptosols soil, usually found in mountainous areas, as you can see the brown colour in the legend, map and the
description of it in the table. It covers a large area of northern Somaliland, basically it is the golis range. leptosols are a advantage for foresting.

Are leptosols volcanic. They seem really dark like volcanic soil. Mashallah, great potential for wildlife reserves and farming.

Somalistan it is ok sh!t happens. Yep Hargeysa region along with other JSL regions has plenty of leptosols soil minus Sool which is the only region that has no leptosols soil. Did you know once upon in a time the area between Hargeysa to Cadaadley had many forests when the British came, it can be reforested again in the future. What is also interesting is much like Gabiley & Awdal the area between Hargeysa, Oodweyne and western Togdheer has some vertisols soil suitable for agriculture growing things like sorghum, wheat. That is why you see sorghum growing rapidly in Oodweyne. Regosols soil which is also good for low volume grazing, irrigated farms are also found in Awdal, Gabiley, Hargeysa, Oodweyne and western Togdheer.

Thuganomics sure.

abdi.ismail they just happen to grow in mountainous areas and the volcanics are underneath the mountains. They survive in such environments.

leptosols has a tree crop potential and extensive grazing. Good for foresting found in most regions of Somaliland apart from Sool.

2R-Fluvisols soil, it is suitable for dry land crops like rice. Within Somaliland it is found in much of northern Somaliland just north of the golis range near the
coast. It is one of the reasons rice has been planted in the dry areas of north Saaxil, dry land crops thrive in this soil.
