local elections dividing the country.

created hostility, and drove a wedge between the close knit isaaq community. The western democracy is right for some, not for us.

I've been saying that for ages, nobody listens. Democracy doesn't suit somalis. You'll just have repeat of 1960s corrupt politics until some big man shows up and takes power then another bloody civil war.

A republic with a fixed constitution and internally elected officials is best.

What if the officials themselves are corrupt goons and just elect their own kin? Won't solve the corruption issue

Somalis and politics go together like oil and water.

If you mean a HY official will vote for HY and a HJ official will vote for HJ, then no. In the system I propose there will be two houses, the Senate/House of elders and a People's Assembly. The senate will elect 3 officials each 4 years with executive power, two civil and one military tribune. The officials will balance eachother out -one for admin, one for legislation/judicial matters and the other for military service. And they aren't allowed to run for second terms. The senate will be fixed so as to include every clan and denomination in equal number, none of that 4.5 bullshit. Every official who runs for the candidacy will be heavily scrutinized by an independent body of Censors. After their term, the officials will be open for prosecution if any are suspected of corruptio. If any of the three is found guilty, all three will be convicted. The officials elected in the People's Assembly, will be chosen by the people to safeguard their rights and freedom. They are also able to legislate if they get an overwhelming majority.

dividing? hardly!!!

It was unfortunate things went sour but I'm sure it will pass. No one will remember it a month from now. Dagaalkii sokeeye wax ka wayn oo ina soo maray ma jiro waana layska iloobay.

I agree with you western democracy isn't the answer in Somaliland at the moment. Inclusive government is what we need. The so-called political parties divide our talent and I don't think, for the goodness of our YOUNG nation, we need that baseless and illusion political exclusion due to political parties. I rather have Gaboose, Xasan Ciise, Faisal, Jamal, Sillanyo, Maxamed Xaashi, Rayaale and others governing together and move us forward in gaining nationhood.

the biggest reason as to why somaliland still remains an alien to anyone outside of east africa is because of internal incompetence. Our politicians are so obsessed with internal politics rather than getting out there and working to bring investments, aid and lobbying for the goodness of somaliland. More money is spent on registering parties and conducting elections than nation building. that can't be right and is not sustainable situation.
