Let's get rid of this poison. We can start with 500% tax of all imported khat.

There's no room for complacent mentality. Afweyne got rid of qat, so did the colonial dogs before him. All somalis need is an authoritative figure to tell them what's what. It's not hard to deal with, its like ripping off a band-aid, it'll hurt first but it has to be find and the country will be all the better for it. You can't have an entire country of Qat-heads. Although, it could lead to some turning to bootlegged alcohol.

I agree but remember the consequences of Afweyne banning qat in the northern cities, all i'm saying is stopping it would make it worse , it needs moderation, but then again in a country where jobs are small in a city of a million people, what to do?

'Whereas men have broken, have collapsed, have begun to mourn what has happened to them, put their heads between their hands, not knowing what to do, women have gathered their forces and have helped their immediate families. Many, many men waste their time uselessly eating qat, whereas their women counterparts, in Italy, in Canada, in the United States, in England, have taken upon themselves social responsibilities that many men do not seem to seek. While men chat all the time about cheap politics, women are busy raising their children as well as the consciousness of Somali society. In my own immediate family, I would say that all my sisters are doing very well in spite of the catastrophe but almost all my brothers are not. I have a feeling that this is true for a great many Somali families.'

Qat is deeply rooted problem and if we are really serious in trying to rid of it, it would require massive nationwide campaign.

What is needed is legislations that will ban it or regulate it , not some Wadaads waith Arab Koofiya and alot of time to preach. Lets be realistic , preaching doesn't solve a drug problem.
