Do you say Somalia or Somaliland?

Somaliland ofcourse. You'd be surprised at the amount of people that will ask you if you're from Somaliland or Somalia.

The few that do seem to be ill informed i shall dedicate a few minutes of my time with much pleasure.

I say Somalia, kid next to me says Somaliland and an argument erupts between the kid and about a few others saying it doesn't exist which is weird because they were asking us if we were from Somalia or Somaliland. It entertains me for a moment since I don't join in because thanks to Somalinet I know it's a real place with real agenda but others think it doesn't even exist so I watch the argument and laugh in the inside.

I usually say I from here, but I have one parent from _______ and the other parent Somalia(meaning Somaliland). Saying Somalia seems easier.
But everytime I say Somalia it feels and sounds like a lie.

Plus the last time I said Somalia, a coworker started talking about how he had friend who died in Somalia

When somebody asks me that,they usually mean what area in my city am I from
Rarely have I been asked ethnically where I'm from.On those occasions though I usaully just say Somalia

Somaliland isn't recognize, so it makes no sense telling a stranger you are from a Place that officially does not exist.
