Visit Somaliland Post

Postby Waqooyism » Mon May 27, 2013 2:34 am

We should a post purely for promoting tourism market in Somaliland. I am not for Somaliland secession but the Konfur is also anti-Somali state. The South (Somalia) does more harm to Somalis than Ethiopia, Kenya, AMISOM and Somaliland secession. In fact, Somaliland secession is the only safe haven for them today. In two years, one way or another Konfur was responsible for the deaths of 250,000 Somalis and this is nothing compared to the past atrocities, massacres, neglect, hate, violence, etc.

We should improve lives for the ordinary people and encourage whatever market we can. Tourism is something we can take its initiatives and help locals own some small revenue and hopefully in the future it will be tangible.

I will start with this post with a picture that I recently made which originally came from Somali Airlines.

'Hargeisa is the capital and the largest city in Somaliland. There is an international airport in Hargeisa, Berbera and Burao, receiving weekly flights from Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Dubai, Djibouti, Kenya and Somalia'
I love how it says 'Somalia' but not Mogadishu!!! hahaha

I use to think tourism was good for Somaliland but I am not so sure anymore. Some of the members in here have mentioned some of the negative impacts.

Here are some comments
I am also opposed to tourism. The Las Geel rocks and the gulf isnt that much to see. I don't see much of a potential for start tourism industry. I'm fearful of the the real underlying reasons why a foreigner would make long trek to some of the poorest and most dangerous region in the world for a tourism purpose. I think these so call tourists are always looking for little excitement and the need for that adrenalin rush. Now, who is to say, they don't come to our land to take advantage of the situation. It's better that they don't come at all under the disguise of tourism, specially when we are not a tourist destination.
Lol@tourism. That is a sector that should never be encouraged or even be outright banned. With regards to foreign investment; that should be severely reduced and regulated. Gaaladu ciyaar maaha, they care about immediate profits not the long-term growth of a poor country. Transfer pricing, speculating iyo balaayo kala nooc ah ayey kugu samayneyaan.
I exchanged 1 email with Maxamed Xaashi the last decent somalilander regarding this same issues, his intial e-mail was in regard to the somalia vs somaliland talks , once i noticed his full name i realized who he was and i mentioned all the above to him. Needless to say as usual when it comes to our leaders he failed to even comment and respond . Its like talking Chines to these people , we live in 2 different world. For them talking about NGO's and Aid is more important then all the above.

The term that have recently emerged in somaliland regarding economics is the phrase " maal gashiyaal" meaning foreign investeros and tourism , that would be a disastor on our naive people , these people think so called 'investors" care to stick in the long run and make fair arrangments. The international investors are like hovering vultures they glyde in the air looking for easy pick and with the likes of Xirsi Daba Gaab and wasiir Geeljire and the rest of the clowns we are an easy pick for these international mafia's. The other one is "tourism" and remember there is no torusim without sex... period. and i dread the day these 2 come to somaliland.
