My Vision for Somaliland

The current Somaliland philosophy, ideology and argument is not going to fly. Most smart people do trial and error and after a while if they don't see any result they move on. At the moment Somaliland quest for standhood has stalled and is almost nearing its end.

I know for some of you its both emotional investment and pride thing but in politics you can't have those two. It is rule number one. In politics is like going to a car yard sales and deals are made secretly or openly.

Somaliland makes no deal and it doesn't believe in deals despite the whole world being built on negotiations, deals, raids and concessions.

Somaliland goes against everything that says politics. It is an argument driven by emotions more than political ambition and facts. You see in this game you have to either be a dirty politician and do all the dirty things in the world or retire and just go to the poll and vote and believe the words of a politician.

Somaliland needs people with fresh ideas who can make a judgement and call without emotional strings.

I do not normally share my visions. Some a dangerous, some are rewarding and some are purely selfish and very calculating. I will just offer you a deal on this one.

Let me make it simple; you have few choices....1) Reunify with the rest of Somali, which isn't a bad idea and negotiate for better deals such as capital in the north (Erigavo)....Prime Minister post, moving the parliament to Hargeisa...or Reserve Bank...or Presidency...but I would recommend tangible gains such as capital or moving the reserve bank to Hargeisa...Presidency n PM can change any time in the future once the country becomes a true democrat etc.

2) Join Ethiopia and take over Somali Region administration...basically we move the capital from Jigjiga to Hargeisa.

I would personally recommend this deal. You have horrible experience with Somalia and I understand.

Ethiopia is the future and soon or later, all these military conflicts are going to subside and give way to a booming and very serious economic growth unheard of in the entire region. Ethiopia does not only have people power but the resources and vast natural wealth that will not be compete with.

Just look at the number of rivers...all starting from Ethiopia. Somalia has Jubba and Shabbelle but they begin in Ethiopia and very soon we going to dam them.

Image

And look at the number of lakes.

The biggest problem for Somaliland and its future growth will always be water. Your biggest foreseeable enemy is H2O and that's where every nation is going and is starting to plan today. If you join Ethiopia, you will have secure water supply for all year round which means bathing, hygiene, economic growth, secure food...drinking and healthier and smarter children all going to schools instead of fetching ceel water. It means water for factories, it means water for power....

Right now you can't really have medium sized factories.

Under Ethiopia here are the deals:

1) We extend the borders of SL into Somali Region including Hawd interior, parts of Shinile and the Dhegehbur district...but Somaliland is not recognized as a Statehood but new territory of Ethiopia with greater autonomous rule.

2) We initiate a new deal called Port for Water - Ethiopia gains full access to Berbera and in return Ethiopia builds two main water pipelines to SL main city Hargeisa and from there you build your own pipelines

3) We build a main railway from Addis to Berbera

4) We build power-lines from Ethiopia to SL mainland

5) We use the Birr currency together and you throw away that useless Shilling

6) Only Ethiopian national passport is issued. All Somalilanders are identified as Nationality: Ethiopian, Race: Somalilander

7) The armies are integrated together and all SL nationals must also help defend all territories of Ethiopia even if that means deploying them in Gambela

8) After 50 years Somaliland can secede from Ethiopia and it becomes its own full fledged state. Better than sitting in limbo and flying around the world with meaningless Konfur delegations only to get air space office, etc. Hawd interior is given a referendum to vote whether to join SL or remain with Ethiopia.

9) All infrastructures and cross border-integrations are kept even after SL is recognized as a State.

There is no room for Isolation. It is your choice, come with me to Ethiopia or go to the south and mend things with them.

My vision for Somaliland. I welcome your criticism and pessimism...  I think integration and many Isaaq think reer. I don't care if the man sitting on the water is an alien, I am going to make that deal so our people can prosper....a lot of you will reject this plan simply because of your views of Habeshi.

My motto is be part of something GREAT and don't kill yourself in the desert because of ego, pride, arrogance and rebellion attitude...grudge and small qabyaalaadnimo.

Hawdian,

I don't like this vision at all. Somaliland should stay as a small and prosperous nation. I honestly wouldn't care if we got recognition or not, if it wasn't for the military. We need recognition only to upgrade our military, that's it.

Why join Ethiopia when Somaliland could be become a much better country? Somaliland has the potential of being in the top 10 best nations in all of Africa.

I'm not giving anything away, the whole Horn of Africa is going to integrate very soon. Before others decide for you, its good to have a vision and plan in place. What you wish to get out off it, time frame and when to jump off.

The funny thing is those who support SL only see the wounds from Siad Barre and the truth is not all Isaaq have scars thus not automatically on board with the high-emotion powered Somaliland that you guys have been entertaining for the last 22 years....same time current Ethiopia took over Ethiopia.

There is difference between Greater Somalia as political element than integrated Greater Somalis with less emphasis on old borders and this is hard to explain to someone who wants to go tribal village-dome.

Even under this plan, Somalis are not divided and there is less focus on wars and discourse...we are calling for the establishment of highways, railways, pipelines, powerlines---etc, all designed to integrate Somalis with others but the overall winners are the Somalis.

I am not saying lets be colonial of Addis Ababa and invade Somalia or eradicate our cultures or language etc....we keep everything Somali, we keep Somali as our national language...etc

Somaliland has no water, no electricity and no means of making any of those....the secessionists focus too much energy on Siad Barre, walanweyn and some British who camped out here temporarily but no one addresses the real challenges of the present and future generations.

Under this plan, its equally beneficial to the south Somalia. In the long term, they don't need to host millions of internally displaced people from the north due to climate change; lack of water, food, etc. who will all put extra pressure on the little fertile region in the south (Shabelle and Jubboyinka).

I wanna deal with long-term thinkers not people who reminisce about the past (anti-Barre, anti-Habashi, 1988, 1977, Ahmed Gurey this that). I need people who can think clearly and take the race forward by linking them to vital resources and future markets and currency of choice.

I have memories - but only a fool stores his past in the future.

I have said there are two options for Somaliland.

1) Reunify with the federation of Somalia

2) Join Ethiopia and after 50 years achieve your own state hood.

Under option one, Somaliland should negotiate:

Image

1: The National Capital relocated to Erigavo.
2) Erigavo placed under its own mini-state (Somali Capital Territory - SCT)
3) Somali Federal Republic is divided into four states instead of the bloated tribal states at present
- North West state (no Somaliland within a Somali State, all states are Somali lands, land of Somalis) - regional capital Sheekh, commercial capital Hargeisa
- Northeast State (no Puntland and tribal names) - regional capital Garowe, commercial capital Bosaasso
- Central State (no need for galmudug, heman xeeb, banadir, etc) - regional capital Marka, commercial capital Mogadishu
- Southern State (No Jubbaland...region is more than Jubbada hose) - regional capital Bardere, commercial capital Kismayo

I personally think that Ethiopia is better and if SL wants its ixtiraaf so crazy, its easier to achieve it under Ethiopia than Somalia. Under Ethiopia you can negotiate a deal as proposed by me; 50 years. It easier to explain to the IC that your a sheep with blackhead compared to Habesha highlanders who are big fur Australian style sheep.

Right now in Somalia, your saying I am black headed sheep and I want to separate from the rest of the black headed sheep because one of the rams head budded me....the IC is left with hmmm...confusion...why separate adhi that is same...just because one doesnt like the other. They might suggest temporarily isolating the troublesome ram but never complete divorce.

I put it in a funny analogy but this is what it is. A hyena (international community) can't tell no Somalia from Somaliland...

Image

But if SL joined Ethiopia, its easier to achieve recognition

Image

What you guys entertaining at the moment will never go anywhere. Its like flying a kite with no wind. Its more like a case of we got slapped we deserve a state. If all tribes who got slapped were to achieve states, the world would have more states than shops.

Hawdian not bad idea.
Actually i would rather advise them to join Ethiopia, remember Ethiopia is regional SuperPower in Hornafrica.
Why join Somalia that has piracy, terrorism and clan wars.
Join Ethiopia and be happy.

Idoor are not smart but highly emotional people who think with emotions rather than the heads. If this opportunity was available to Hawiye, I assure you they would be on board....bigger market....bigger resources....tackling the serious problems.

Today Hargeisa has no water and they expect that to be a capital....half of its people will die out or they will abandon it. It will become a city abandoned because of water...

There is huge under ground water but SL as is can't even dream about that. Easier option is join Ethiopia, get all the water you need to your cities, go industrialization...export and then learn to desalinate salty water by investing in local education, manufacturing, etc....then slowly replace Ethiopian water.

They rather worry about unknown ministers taking photos with foreign NGOs and saying that's a statehood.

What makes you think Ethiopia will develop your lands. Did they develop your lands which are already in Ethiopia such as Gashaamo and Daroor? Beyond
Jigjiga the entire so called Somali region is very underdeveloped. Ee Khiyaaliiga kale tag meesha niyohow. There is no development in Gashaamo or Daroor,
today Salahley and Oodweyne are more developed than them, why? Because Gashaamo and Daroor have been unfortunate to be part of Ethiopia.

True the Somali region is under developed but I know you are well aware that it is not the same as it was two years ago. We came long way and the future is bright one. The problem with Somali Region is lack of good leaders. Ethiopia has all the resources and opportunities there for us to grab. Slowly we are.

Today Ethiopia has many Somali leaders, Somali language is recognized and Somali Region today has all schools teaching af-Somali. Before it was banned and only Amharic was the way.

Also today Ethiopia's finance minister is for example Somali. We have about 30 ministers, we have many in the army and slowly we are getting thousands of students graduating every year.

Somali Region is going to take another 20 years but I assure you in the year 2020, Jigjiga will be bigger than Hargeisa if you remain in your status quo and Jigjiga remains with Ethiopia.

Today Jigjiga's airport is bigger, its university bigger, its roads and infrastructure more modern, etc, and all done in the last 5 years.

You are too busy crying about what happened 25 years ago and don't even realize how behind you are and where everyone else is heading. You want a tribe state while everyone is going regional bloc and packs.

I can't entertain a tribe state based on past mistakes of one man who ultimately destroyed his all nation and left even his own son homeless.

You are dealing with people like Inkaarqabe.
He believes Jigjiga has not benefited from the peace and the fact that they are part of Ethiopia.
If only he watched Universal tv he would see the fast progress made in JigJiga: Hospitals, Schools, Technology Centres, Paved roads, street lightening. They are not lacking water.
People i have spoken to from that region tell me about the wealth, housing projects and economical boom.

Such path is open for Somaliland if only they followed the vision of Hawdian, aka Dothrakilaaye.

The Old Hutuking would call this idea a manifestation of true Gaalocaabudnimo and preferring christians above muslims.
The New Hutuking cares about Progress 8-)

The Isaaqs in Ethiopia are marginalized, I don't care about Jigjiga a city that is not even half the size of Hargeysa, it did see some development because it
is the capital of Somali region but the rest are ignored. My point is you haven't benefitted from being part of Ethiopia, so why the hell would you propose for
other more developed Somaliland territories to be part of Ethiopia. More population in Ethiopia = less aid allocated to you, Somaliland gets its aid
development directly hence why many towns were able to develop along with its strong community orientated diaspora. So don't talk about uniting with
Ethiopia, they have done nothing for Isaaq lands in Ethiopia whether it is Harta Sheikh, Gashaamo, Daroor.

Keep waiting for Ethiopian handouts while I ball building the road between Hargeysa-Oodweyne-Burco, Salahley- Hargeysa road, building factories in New Hargeisa
and Burco, building a port and a fish factory soon in Maydh.
