the whole thing is about the dam. we get the electricity we badly need in our country. I think that's in our interest. Egypt doesn't want black Africa rising.

We don't need Ethiopian electricity. Put it in your brain, Somaliland doesn't need anyone.

We already rely a bit too much on Ethiopia. But this Dam/cheap electricity might not be a bad idea.

Waryaa Hawdian in terms of socio-economic status, how do somalis fare in ethiopia?

I agree with xildiid, we don't need anyone for water or electricity. Wind turbines and sea turbines are enough for our electricity as well as the traditional means

Wind power and solar power are inefficent at the moment. Somaliland has enough fossil fuel for now. They are simpler, cheaper and more efficient - perfect for a poor country with no infrastructure. Once we've built up industries and have skilled workforce with the expertise. we can invest in renewable means of energy production.

Importing electricity from Ethiopia = dependence.

We have to invest in renewable energy now while we can. If we become dependent on cheap electricity from a neighboring country we won't develop our own electricity sector and we'll be dependent forever.

You have to understand reality. This a country that doesn't even have something as simple and ubiquitous as tailors or a proper airport runway, who has the know-how to construct solar-plants and wind-farms? Are we gonna beg again? That is also assuming that we can extract the energy we need efficiently. We have coal and most likely gas and oil as well. Let's use them up first.

It's all about determination and having a government that's true to the cause.

There are countries that are in worse conditions than Somaliland that has managed to utilize solar energy and wind energy effectively. Obviously in the early stages we still have to use fossil fuel but not for long.

do you need to build your own diesel engine before you can use it?
why cant you buy your wind turbine, its the same concept.

we dont have petrol yet, but we already have wind power, we should use it.
