Those arguing against giving this man the title of mujahid because he's a gaal don't seem to realize that the SNM struggle against Siyads forces wasn't a jihad in the religious sense of the term. It was a jihad stricly in the linguistic sense, meaning 'to struggle against', making snm members mujahids since they 'struggled/fought'. So if a gaal did indeed take part in the SNM mission during the eighties and early nineties, then he should be called a mujahid, just like how a secular minded isaaq would be given the title.

As for those who will counter that it was indeed a true jihad in the religious sense of the word because Siyaad Barre was a socialist gaal...well to them i'll say that they and everyone else knows that that's not the reason the SNM fought against the man and his regime.
Defending oneself, property, honor and deen is Jihad and this is what SNM stands for.

For your information, SNM was an Islamic movement. You and others may disagree with me but I can prove you if you are interested but not here. I'll post a thread about it at the right time.

P.S. If non believer defend himself/herself, honor or property that won't make him Mujahid. Even if he sided with Muslims against infidels. Waxa halgankii doobi " Sawiiri" jiray rag Somalilanders ah. You can hear them talking while recording.
No it wasn't they were bunch of criminals stop glorifying them and by your stupid logic said barre would be considered a mujaahid because he was protecting his country against terrorist financed by ethiopia Image

this thread smells of "cadaanka baynu futada ka leefaynaa" out of all the snm & it's history we could made a thread about the figures & heros of the struggle. Isaaqa like to admire shishiyaha.
yes we all share the same snm history, but some more than others. simple those that lost the most and put the most works they shine more. why do you think snm birthday is 17 oct 1983, malinta shuhaadada snm-ta.
Countless threads have been made in this section about all the SNM heros, I believe you are new.
You only need to check the archives to see the number of threads dedicated to the likes of Mujaahid Lixle
and Maalinta Shuhaadada

This thread was started in reaction to a report by Boramanews. It seems the Yusuf fella was
interested in our opinion on this matter (because a cadaan mujaahid is an odd concept ).
That is all I see it as.

it's plays right into our enemies hands.
I think you need to remember the "enemies" will always have a problem with us.
It does not matter to them whether we "admire" shisheeyaha and put them on a pedestal or not.

You should not care what people still bitter over the fall of Siyaad Barre think or feel.

That being said ...I do agree with you that those who died for SL's freedom
should always be remembered.

so what guuto snm was he part off??
Information guuto same as mujahid boobe yuusuf ducaale. he worked for the bbc to spread the cause of people's halgan. here is an interview he hard with mujahid caydiid radiyalahu canhu some where in Somaliland when the donkey cali mahdi took over xamar administration.

Journalist Hamish Wilson met up
with Gen. Aydid in northern Somalia and asked
him on what grounds he claimed the leadership of
the USC.
[Aydiid] During last 10 months, I was leading the
struggle of USC and I have succeeded, together
with my people, mujahidiin, and other political
other political members of my organization to
catch nearly all central regions-that is Mudug
Region, Galguduud Region, Hiiraan Region, and
Middle Shabeelle Region. During this struggle, we
have held a congress inside the country. The
congress has chosen me as the chairman of USC.
The participants of the congress were 191. Up till
now, I am the chairman of USC.

[Wilson] How is it that they have been able to
arrive in Mogadishu, although you yourself, as you
say, liberated Mogadishu and all the other areas-
how were these people then able to step in and
form a government in front of you, without you
opposing them or stopping them?

[Aydiid] During that fighting in Mogadishu, I made
with them an agreement. After the liberation,
immediately, on 27 January 1991 they [word
indistinct] immediately in the morning, went to
the Radio Mogadishu, and they announced that
they are Executive Committee of USC and the
next day they suddenly, without consulting with
me, they formed this government, this – you know
– is government with the President also, which I
am not absolutely recognizing and everybody,
also the people, the mujahidiin, the members of
the USC were disappointed of this step they have
done, this wrong step.

[Wilson] So, as you controlled all the armed forces
of the USC, why did you not take action to
prevent these people from going to the radio and
making these announcements?

[Aydiid] Well, I avoided any clash with them
because, you know, I preferred to solve the
problem peacefully and politically. And, really,
now I am in very good position to win this policy
which preferred instead to assist them.

[Wilson] What do you think that Omar Arteh and
his people are trying to achieve? What is the
object behind them forming this government?
[Aydiid] Well, they wanted absolutely to hijack the
power. This is their (?main) objective, and they
wanted to continue the policy of Siyaad Barre.
And, we have seen what they are doing recently
after they formed this government.

Covering the liberation specifically. remember the BBC was the only and the largest independent media group in the horn at that time. if there was no pro liberation journalists like Wilson it was hard to communicate the outside world. few SNM members like muj boobe used to document SNM operations the rest were mainly armed men and the political wing. atleast he captured some important historical moments. and we should appreciate that.

Ok but was he a snm member?? Was he part of the somali bbc or bbc news? bc then he would b a supporter of snm rather than full member.

thats why started this thread . I can't verify that he was just supporter of the liberation or he was member of SNM . only him and SNM knows about that. I guess he was just a provisional supporter since he could not work for the BBC if he was full member of SNM.
