How can this journalist know the amount somalis spend on qaad annually when we don't have any type of statistics? We don't even issue basic birth or death certificates let alon drug statistics.!

My cousin used to work at Kalabaydh customs, i did ask him about the khat problem when i was in Hargeisa in 2013.He told me that 300,000 dollar worth of khat goes through Kalabaydh every day.

More accurate number is 100-120 million,still lots of money for a poor country.

By your $100 M - $200 M. By using an average of $150 M, $5,000,000 worth of Khat would have to be imported per day.

Importing $300,000 per day worth of Khat, $9,000,000 per month would be more accurate.

Edit: Unless you mean annually. that would be $108,000,000
