So what are you saying? that Somaliland's priority should be an airport in Burao?
No, but if its only that much, then why not. Sooner or later it would need to be built. JSL is more than Hargeisa, hargiesa is not suitable for the capital. I say that as someone from hargeisa, born in hargeisa, family born in hargeisa. A city with water and food security is more suitable. There is a reason most capitals in the world are built on the banks of a river or on the coast.

Until we have roads and infrastucture to move cargo and people, airports and airstrips should be used.

The main priority should be roads, roads and more roads. Highway networks between regions are the biggest need.

Burco have much more potential than Hargeisa, be it water rich area, flat and fertile land for agriculture in outskirts of Burco and surrounding areas, it's the centre and the heart of Somaliland.

Look how beautiful this land is.

Otherbrother the road from Boorama to Hargeisa to Sheikh to Burao to Las Anod is already paved. Over the next few years we need to invest our meagre resources in productive assets like power stations, renewable energy plants, manufacturing plants etc. Not dusty unused roads to small villages that are not economically productive.

Once we start to generate hard currency from exports and we reduce our dependence on imports, we can star thinking about other infrastructure that we can invest in.

Agreed, but that doesn't take away from the necessity of roads and transport network. That equally affects people lives. Roads allow people to move, cargo to move, people to go and trade, visit others and more.

Power is also needed. But that shows how lacking we are. We need many things.

he did not say we got 13 million. And the name "Sheikh bashir airport" is not official one. In my opinion all Aviation funds should be contributed to Egal international. Somaliland needs only one major airport at the moment. We need to invest other transportation infrustructure. how come we have no bus stations? We need coach companies who pick people straight from Egal international to the regions.

No need to for 4 or 5 substandard "airports" when Egal airport needs major improvements to it. Roads are also more beneficial for traveling and transporting goods, trade, movements of army personnel etc. Also hundred of thousands of average people can use it for their benefit and the government can collect revenue millions annually from toll booths.

On the other hand airports will be used by NGO workers, diaspora, and government officials who all add up to a few thousands and would be less revenue in.

Exactly, which is why prioritisation is key.

Yusuf,

Maybe everybody in Somaliland should relocate to Hargeisa. Because if you keep investing every single penny in the west, it will force everybody to want to relocate as that's where the opportunities are. The other problem will be the far east sool and sanaag regions will become more disconnected from the centre of Somaliland and naturally will start doing business with puntland.

Furthermore, if a community decides to finance its own projects who are you to tell them where to spend it. Don't you think they've thought through how this project will benefit them.

Burco is empty and need some injection of investments.

Skywalker

the real Somaliland CORE is that silk road from berbera-hargeisa-gebiley-wajale. every penny should be invested in that area to get quick profit. The rest is sadaqo jaariya. Even if you become our leader tommoraw you would have invested that area more than any where else in Somaliland.

We need one big port in berbera. one major airport in hargeisa , Corridor to wajaale and intensive farming projects around gebiley to feed the huge population of hargeisa. simple somaliland oo dhan way dheregtay markaas.

This is nonsense. Firstly, development should be spread evenly throughout the region to avoid political conflict and for ecological and environmental reasons. Second, Berbera airport makes more sense than Hargeisa because Berbera is more central, a port city and better connected to the Central and Eastern regions. Every city (except Erigavo) is easily accessible from Berbera. Lastly, every region has good economic potential and you should remember that agriculture is only one small industry, the mainstay of the Somali economy is livestock and it is the central and eastern regions that contribute the vast majority of livestock exported.
