Not feeling all the confusing habro districts eg Maroodi Jeex, Garoodi, Saraar, Saxil, Oodweyne n so on.
I like the old four; Oogo (plateau), Guban (coastal), Hawd (flat savanna/bushland) and Golis (highlands).
Those are damn good names and we need to revive them.
Your views.

Salaan sare sis
Waxa la isticmaali jiray xiligii Ingiriiska.
I discovered them few days ago myself while doing little research on the name Hawd/Haud.
This is what the British wrote;
Swayne cautioned against the concessions made to Ethiopia on the Haud, because the area was of central importance to the Somali population.
There were four ecological zones in the country: the `Guban' (coastal area), the Golis range (mountain escarpment), the Oogo (plateau), and the Hand (southern forests and plains). The two most important zones were the interior plateau and the Haud. During the rainy seasons, the pastoralists moved their livestock to the Haud because of the abundance of pastures and temporary water (rain) reservoir. During the dry seasons, the pastoralists moved their livestock to the plateau because it had, unlike the Haud, permanent water.
Hand is mis-spelt Haud/Hawd.
Wa magacyoo cajiiba.
I believe Barre regime made the Awdal, Waqooyi Galbeed, Togdheer, Sool and Sanaag thing.

Stop crediting everything to Siad Bare. Oodweyne and Togdheer names existed long before your great grandparents were even
born. Oodweyne = the place with the large bushes, Togdheer = The long seasonal river, both are landscape names and their use
can be found in British Somaliland books dating to 19th century.

Ducaysane share the British docs or sources.
Words and names always existed but it was Barre who put them on the map as far as I know.
Before the Kacaan, the Somali Republic consisted of only 8 beautiful administrative regions but he added 10 more to appease tribes like they are doing today in SL.
These 8 administratives were; Banadir, Burao (Burao, Erigabo, Las Anod), Mudug, Lowere Jubba, Upper Jubba, Majertenia, Hiiraan and Hargeisa (Berbera, Borama, Hargeisa).
What we learn from here is that the south kept its Italian administrative names but in SL we past on two cities and that's why the four lovely names of Oogo, Guban, Golis and Hawd (except this one) were long forgotten or never heard of us regional names.
In 1982 Siad Barre doubled them (16 regions) and Togdheer was formed with administrative code SO15 before its code was changed again in 84-86.
I will await the British map showing Oodweyne and Togdheer as regions on the map.

Maroodi Jeex is not new it is traditional naming. Our people used to name the lands after animals that were very common in the land at those times, gacan-libaax area's name is another example of this.
Also I believe the Golis mountain ranges are named after my legendary ancestor Golis the legendary warrior

If Haud was the most important land I guess only the strongest clans managed to expand and patrol this land

Those names are ecological names, I don't think you can make a province from them. Like Hawd one end to the other of SL Miya gobol noqon kara? Gubaan one end of the coast to the other? The mountain range Miya gobol noqon kaara and so on.

I like them too but they are too broad and describing geographical formation for the most part.
Majority of our settlements are located on Ogo though,
I hate Woqoyi Galbeed and Haysimo, ugly names. Gabiely, Toghdeer, Oodwayne, Saraar, Saxil, Hawd, Sool, Sanaag have a nice ring to it.
Awdal is half and half, short but not catching.

Exactly there names for ecological zones they can't be states if so the hawd is completely missing.
