This is not resemblence, whoever designed SL flag incorporated the Saudi flag whole, save for the sword of Saud. I am surprised not to hear much discussion on the abomination of flag SL is refusing to change. Having a different country's flag at the top of our flag like SL is some backwater colony.

The current Somaliland flag is the recreation of the former SNM flag. This one. it has nothing to do with all flags you posted . Each component of our flag has a unique meaning for us. Before the liberation the red was on top of our flag because we were struggling. SNM had the vision to make peace and reconciliation after they win the war that's why the white is in the second line. The shahada was in the middle as well to represent the faith of of SNM movement. The SNM had the vision or hope to finally bring prosperity . In 1997 when we closed the most important chapter of peace building and reconciliation. Egal government recreated the SNM flag and adopted this new version. He added the black star in opposite of the Somaliweyn white star. guys u missing the whole point, i dont care about saudi and their stand against SL, but during xaj there was an a big social media drama between landers and konfurta after landers raised SL flag on their camps and while performing xaj,they even given official complain to the saudis and when they were expecting the saudi media to spot such events, this reporter praised SL flag ( for whatever reason,hell i care) ...

SL flag was designed on different stages, the basic 3 colors always were present even during snm,but in different order, the takbeer and the shahada were used before as well, I think during cigaal government ,AUN, they finalize it and put the green color on top along with the shahada,as green describe peace and prosperity and gives importance over the bloody red,and to give space for the black star ,the shahada were moved to the upper part of the flag.....i dont think resembling saudi flag has anything to do with us.

You are deliberately being obtuse.

The Arabic calligraphy is directly lifted from the Saudi flag. No question about it. If that was not enough then the green backdrop is again also mimetic of the same Arab flag. You can not spin this. The inscription in Thuluth is that specific.

Now how you justify having a foreign flag inserted into your national flag like a former colony is up to you. The SNM was a freedom movement with neither the resources or care to adhere to international vexillological standards. How you represent yourself today as a nation seeking recognition on the world stage on the other hand is never to be taken lightly.

We need to change this abomination.

Why must a flag tell the entirety of SL story, history, and future aspirations? We might as well add the camel to symbolise prosperity, and whilst we are at it represent the 5 regions that make up SL and add a horse to appease the Dhulos

Flags do not work like that.

A simple design like the very first SNM flag would make for a great looking flag.



Its clean, elegant and powerful. There is economy of line and symbolism at work here.
