Were they trading in Bantu slaves? Or nilotic slaves from southern Ethiopia?

Nah that doesn't sound plausible. Bantu slaves never made it to the North.

According to this book, they were Ethiopian (mostly Oromo and Sidama). They used to be shipped from Zeila and Berbera.

These were not even nilotic though. They were Sidama and Oromo. Apparently the beautiful, light skin women were sold as concubines.
