This is a huge problem back home because businesses are using shitty 500/1000 Shillins to avoid tax, hoard bills and also creating a huge price inflation by trading in US dollars. Why is a cup of tea worth 3 dollars in a country where the average person only earns less than $600 a year?

This is undermining the country's economic and financial integrity and and along with the constant importing of even the simplest items like a toothpick, the hundreds of millions of dollars spent per annum on qat, we are haemorrhaging billions of dollars in government revenue. Money that could be used to prevent and prepare for droughts, create jobs build roads and other infrastructure.
