Your opinion on the proposed UAE naval base in Berbera

Alright, so this issue seem to be dominating Somaliland political circles. It has divided the nation into two camps, those who welcome it and see that it will help our independence causes. And those who reject it and see this as something that will have an adverse affect on our independence and nationhood.

I am a realist and I am one of those who support it, but I can be swayed if a real good reason is provided by those rejectionists which includes the majority of the Waddani Party.


So falks what is your op on this? Good reasons pls

I support it. There is no division just Wadani party members who are pro Ethiopia are opposed to it.

I listened to all of their reasons of objections , their spoke man said we don't want our children and livestock to be disturbed by sonic booms of airplanes.

I am not so sure about the base. It will in my opinion drag us into the sectarian shitstorm that is the Middle East.

The idiotic minister of presidency was claiming that we are a Sunni nation therefore we should
support the Khaliijis in bombing the Houthis back to the Stone age.

What benefit can be gained from this base, from a nationnalist perspective?
What effect if any would it have on the continued independence of Somaliland?
what will the Xabashis do if the pro-Xabashi Waddani party fail to thwart the implementation of this base? A large segment of our population reside within Ethiopia, and a portion of our trade is dependent on it. What effects on that?

What do people think of these questions?

The base will be good for somaliland as the Emirates will invest more and more in Somaliland. I hope they build berbera airport.

when I saw maxmud xaashi's conference and him talking about the sunni/shiite conflict the way he emphasized that we are sunni and oppose shiitisim somehow tells me that we're going to be involved in houthi/gulf war he even said we're going to defend ourselves and retaliate in case of an attack. do we really need this? I know it will the first time SL administration stands against ethiopia which is good but do we really need to risk our security for it?

I have told you guys many times before, ina Xaashi is a dangerous dangerous man. On one hand I am not opposed to a base provided the right terms are offered in return, but notice how he is setting up the parameters of what they'll do. They will not present the actual agreement to parliament, they will pull a similar move to the port fiasco by presenting an abridged version of the agreement.

That I can not trust.

I agree with the base. The world is not what it was in 91. They're are new realities and strategic interests that we can play to our advantage. We have been complaining of isolation from world politics for a long time now we have the perfect opportunity to be a major player. Our current political reality does not reflect our strategic land. Believe me the enemies of Somaliland are shitting at this news. Not to mention all the publicity and investment that will come with it.

What are advantages (what do they give in return)

What are the disadvantages

Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

You have to take some risks in life but they must be worth it
