i heard from a well an elderly and respected somaliland professor that those numbers especially for the isaaq tribe is half the truth of the total population.

the reason makes sense, there was a public unrest from the british tax system implemented on the goods and livestock of somalilanders, british put tax on every adult, so when this census started isaaqi elders agreed to reduce the official numbers of their kinsmen so their subclan wont pay much to the british.

This study was conducted by Hunt a man who spent 25 years in SL. But his study was found to be both an under estimate by the British military administration from 1943 to 1954. They did their own population and livestock estimation and found that the population was at least 750,000 while Italian Somalia to be 1, 250,000.
