Other equally relevent questions might be What is the name under the official constitution?

If the Constitution that Somaliland was a part of and made it unified with Somalia Italiana to form the two into one country had been nullified doesn't it also make the unification null and void aka non legally fiable meaning dead?
No.

The two territories were unified under the Act of Union, which was passed by the legislatures in both territories.

In fact the former Somaliland protectorate rejected the first referendum on the constitution to form the Somali Republic. Yet no one gave a shit.

Therefore, legally Somalia can create infinite amounts of constitutions and it will not affect the union.

Somalia = south

Somaliland = north

Somaliland + Somalia = The Somali Republic, then later Somali Democratic Republic (the union).

Funny how X playa is crediting the south even for the union name.

All the other names are bogus.

don't get caught up in semantics as you can see both "land" and the suffix "ia" is used interchangeably by those who named the territories. To me it is inconsequential, there is no argument here, just remnant of the queens bastards barking as usual.

Your equation is all wrong

Somaliland = Somalia

It is just a matter of language and perspective because north and south were colonized by two different empires. The official name post independence was Somali Republic and was colloquially referred to as Somalia.

Only separatist attach meaning and identity to "land" over "ia" when in essence they mean the same thing lol, and the people are the same just colonized by two different empires.

Care to source your rubbish, or as a typical Somali you spew your baseless theories and we should take it at face value?. First of all , there was no such a thing called Somalia before the Italians coined that term , and the somali region was called by the Arabs and Muslims Al-Somal not Somalia . In 1854 long before the British even landed Somaliland was refred to by Arabs and Muslims as Bar-Al-Somal or the Land of the Somal later the British translated that into Somali Land , a thing we cant say about Italian Somalia . So there you have it kid Somaliland doesn't = somalia because one is an original ancient name for the land and the second Somalia was invented by a recent colonial power.

So i suggest to the faqash and walaweyn to stop using this blasphemous term Somalia and use Somaliland .

Have you been bullied by somalis calling your Somalilander ? lmao, how can you have an identity crisis over that, be proud, bilad al Somal means land of Somal right, this is where Somaliland is derived from, and Somalia is derived from the same root, land of Somal, what don't you get old man.

How is it blasphemous to have a simple latin suffix to the Somal as the countries name when it has become universal practice across many cultures, here is a list of some of the countries with the same "ia" suffix,
Abkhazia
Albania
Algeria
Armenia
Australia
Austria
Bolivia
Bosnia-Herzegovina
Bulgaria
Cambodia
Colombia
Croatia
Cuba
Dominica
Equatorial Guinea
Eritrea
Estonia
Ethiopia
Gambia
Georgia
India
Indonesia
Latvia
Liberia
Lithuania
Macedonia
Malaysia
Mauritania
Micronesia
Mongolia
Namibia
New Caledonia
Nigeria
Romania
Russia
Saint Lucia
Saudi Arabia
Serbia
Slovakia
Slovenia
Somalia
South Ossetia
Tanzania
Transnistria

Somalia had another name prior to independence Cadal, which the British, Egyptians and Ethiopian completely wiped from history.

no need to get emotional and get rattled. I have proved your walaweyn/faqash probaganda to just a myth and instead of backing up your Italian Somalia version you posted few countries with similiar endling names, which is pointless since we can do that with Somaliland too. The point is buffoon that this Somalia you and your mother and uncle and entire tribe repeat did not exist prioir to Italy taking over its southern colonies. The three Italian colonies were , Trans Juba , Benadir and Majeertenia and these 3 colonies they named Italian Somalia , somalia never exist as a name of a region before their Italian Mafioso masters.

Lets keep it intellectual and not throw adhominem, my point: the root meaning of Somalia is "land of Somal" same as Somaliland, historical maps show the two names were used interchangeably.

furthermore Somalia uses a mere suffix "ia"whereas Somaliland uses an entire word. If that wasn't bad enough you cannot compare the universal nature of the latin suffix "ia" with the word "land", looking at the etymology of "land" it has its roots in anglosaxon germanics, its extremely localized and attributed to a specific group of people. Because of these two facts, Somaliland carries a far more blatant foreign cultural marker than Somalia does, and even though they mean the same thing, one is affront to Somali identity while the other is 99% Somali identity with a little spice of "ia" a latin suffix that is both universal, and neutral due to its ancient past where many cultures adopted it.

During the Kacaan days, there was government institution that regulated new linguistics, naming this in mathematics, sciences, medicine etc Thank God Xplaya was not on the board, otherwise he would have culturally appropriated German words left right and center and made us lose touch with our identity and culture, effectively turning us into inferior German negros.

Now you admit that your beloved Italian somalia is an Italian invention.! a suffix or a prefix is beside the point , the point is the term Somalia was coined by Italy while the term Somali-land was a mere translation from the Arabic Bar-al-somal or the land of the somal a term used in pre-colonial times a thing we cant say about somalia which is strictly colonial.

Its about time your walaweyn/faqash stop using this term as though it was invented by god for the somalis , somaliland is much more befitting term in its originality and meaning then Italian somalia a term strictly used for Majeerteenia , Banadir and trans Juba.

The official name of the union was THE SOMALI republic not Italian Somalia as much of your countrymen would love to. Now it seems the Italian subjects in the south have brought their master's name and are all over the world parroting their colonial masters calling their country ..somalia.

Don't you get it, Somalia means Land of Somal ??

Latin is not a colonial mark of shame, it is a language that is universal even before colonial times, the same is not true for English, and there is nothing more english than the word "land" Anglosaxon Germanic.

1.the translation of Somalia and Somaliland is the same, "land of Somal"

2.the etymology of Somaliland is more foreign than Somalia as the former has an entire foreign word in it while the latter a mere suffix

3. latin elements such as the suffix "ia" are neutral and not colonial makers because they are prevalent throughout the world as latin is both ancient and widespread since before colonial era, thus it is a choice to embrace it or not, just as we decided to adopt the latin alphabet.

4. an English words such as "land" is not neutral nor widespread, it is a localized word to anglosaxons rooted in germanic spread only via colonization and thus carries the shame of colonial past and should not be embraced into ones identity.

This entire thread you have been defending the use of Somaliland in such a dishonest way, while insulting Somalia in the same breath, this is the only post you have shown any indication of indifference to the name Somaliland, at least you are learining something.

To be quite frank, I have had this debate before with a lander, and it ended the exact same way, he wanted to use the name Cadal, and disowned the name Somaliland, and I agreed with him that Cadal is more suitable, but he is decades younger than you, I don't think an old fart like you will learn new tricks.

you are trying hard justifying the use of Italian Somalia , but all the historical chips are rallied against your case. There is nothing foreign about a translated term, The Arab Gulf ?? is that a foreign or a mere translation of Khaliij Al-Carab? Somaliland is a translation of the Arabic Bar-Al-Somal used by the Egyptians prior to 1884 when they had to withdrew and transfer power to the British, Somalia in the other hand never existed prior to the Italian colonization of your region, and thats the point period. The Arabs today call Somaliland Ardul-Soomaal not different then Barr-Al-Somal.

Its about time Walaweyns/Faqash cease using this Italian invention to refere to the somali region,

Somalia is the colonial name of ex Somalia Italiana. The word Somalia never existed prior to Italy naming its colony Somalia.

The union state was called the Somali Republic as Xplaya stated, and was later changed to the Somali Democratic Republic.

No one knows why qadaadweyn decided to bring their colonial name "Somalia" back.

Somaliland on the other hand is one of five names suggested during the rebirth of the state, the reason for choosing Somaliland is purely to link the modern state to the historic, internationally recognised State of Somaliland. There is a reason behind choosing that name, unlike the bizarre restoration of "Somalia", a name invented by colonial Italy, for a supposedly independent state.
