Garxsjis means gar gooye gartuna wa xeer lagooyo gartu niqi jiray. Ismaciil garxajis was the 3rd son of sheikh isxaaq.
Was Ismaaciil's nickname really Garxajis?. According to 19th century Somalis the prefix "Habar" always preceded Garxajis, indicating that it was a Bah Wadaag. According to Burton this Bah included Arap. So the question is who was Garxajis? Was it the name of Ismaciil and Arap's mother or her clan?. Another interesting thing is that if it was indeed a Bah Wadaag, it gives credence to the Shariifa story.Garxsjis means gar gooye gartuna wa xeer lagooyo gartu niqi jiray. Its said Garxajis is the replacement of the real son of Sheikh Isxaaq who got stolen by Ogaden woman. Its said one day when Magaado was giving water to her flocks of sheep, one sheep got strayed, to bring it back to flock, Magado put down the infant she was holding on her hip and ran after the deviating sheep from the rest of the flock. Unfortunately, another woman who happened to be by the well at the time who also had a baby of her own had switched her baby with Magado's one. The woman took the baby with her to her Deegaan.
its said Magado's baby was well nourished, healthy and good looking baby while the one the Ogaden woman had was malnourished and very sick baby. This was the reason she stole the baby.
When Magado came back to the well, she found a baby that wasn't the one she originally left by the well, she looked all direction but found no sign of her baby. Even though, she was heartbroken, she took the baby to her home where she told her husband what happened at the well.
Its reported, Sheikh Isxaaq urged her to keep the baby and raise like theirs. He said he will be useful and told her when the baby grows up, he would lead the camels for them. this is how the nick name "Garxajis" came about. Garxjis= leading camel. The sheikh persuaded Magaado that the baby is one of his sons from now on.
The Reer Isaaq tribe of the Ogaden are said to be originated from the stolen son of Sheikh Isxaaq while Garxajis are from the Ogaden of the Darood.
