Osmaniya Script

Postby garowegal » Sun Apr 20, 2008 8:11 am

Do you think it should be reinstated? i heard its used in parts of puntland but the return of the Script would be awesome because we would be one of the few african countries who have their own written script.

More about the Script visit here

Walaalo Osmaniya Script Is Too Complicated. It Kinda Looks Like Hindi Or Whatever They Use In India.

Arabic Would Be Preferable If We Had To Choose Between Them. Lakin What's Wrong With Standard Somali, Why Not Promote That.

You think Arabic should be adopted as our form of writing?
i think the Osmaniya script should be taught to anyone willing to learn it. Of course the Latin script will remain since its so deeply rooted in Somali Society, but i think the Abandonment of the Script was really Foolish Since its a part of our heritage it signified "Somali".

The Arabic Language Is The Language Of The Noble Quraan. So I Wouldn't Have Any Problem If It Was Used In Our Country.

Although I Agree With You that Osmaniya Script Should Be Made Accessible For All Somalis Who Are Willing To Learn It. It's Very Hard To Adopt Because Of It's Intricacy. It's Ancient, And Yes It's Part Of Our Heritage. Again I Have No Problem With The Fact That People Want To Learn It. But making It Reinstated Is A Bit Too Much.

OMG...I never heard of this script. It looks so funky n unique; we really should've kept it. But its 2 late now. Although we could have it as another official working language 4 those willing 2 learn n use it. I 4 one am still learning the script we have now.....

Somalia doesn't need 2 adopt Arabic cause we're not Arabs. I'm proud 2 say Somalia is the ONLY African country that has been colonized that still uses its native language as its official language!! (exclude Somaliland who now use Arabic n English)! The other is Ethiopia, but they haven't been colonized.
