Nominate a city to replace xamar as the new capital city

Postby SomaliAmir » Wed Sep 03, 2008 12:24 pm

IF/When Somali achieve peace should muqodisho/xamar continue to be the captial of somalia. I will admit that once it was the enbodiment of the hope/inspiration of an entire people not only in somalia but throughout Somaliwayn. Xamar was the economic, political, cultural, idealogical center for all somalis concepts shattered by the brutality of the mooriyan. today the area is reaserting it Hawiye deegaanimo(Hawiye territory or soil) which make it less appealing as the capital city of somalia, so with every clan building it own cities why should xamar remain the heart of somalia?

I say lets make a fresh start a new somalia deserve a new capital here are my nominations

Galkayo

The city is equidistant from Hargaysa and Xamar, ideally located to take advantage of any future trade between the south and the north plus it not a one clan city. Daroods , Hawiye , Dir, minority clans all live/work in Galkayo. all thus have a stake in maintaining peace in the city if the city were to become the new capital of somalia plus all the trade between somalia and somali Galbeed pass through Godogob via the Galkayo-Godogob highway.

the only set back are that it close to ethiopia and since the mudug is not as wet as the south, a increase in population could not be sustain with the underdeveoped water sources in the Galkayo today.

the other option is Badaibo, the Rahawayn/af-maay maay people were often victims of the civil war, hundreds of thousand of their people were killed in 1991-1993 so as break with the past and as assurance that minorites will be protect and will have a greater share in the government of a new somalia the capital city should be a minority/disinfranchised group's city. further more Somalia should have two capital cities one that house the executive/legislative branches of government and one that house the Judiciary branch ( I nominated Borame).

and to those that ask why I haven't pick a City like Kismayo or Bosasoo as the new capital I am just being realistic although it would be fantastic if the capital was Bosasoo or Kismayo the other major clans would never agree to it so a Multi-clan city or a disinfranchised group's city would be a practical replacement for xamar since political power would either have to be shared or taken completely away from the 3 major clans/ (trouble makers clans)

what do you think?

Capital city should be within this range

Image

Preferible somewhere with sufficient rainfall like Hiiraan province

Eyl is also very strategic and is very green (streams from the mountains throughout the year)
