Like Father Like Son. Puntland iyo A/Y. That is how our relationship is with our founding father.

And some dare ask us why we love him. At the end of the day Puntlanders Love Abduallhi Yusuf as much as he loves them.

When asked if he retired from politics, Yusuf said: "If Al Shabaab attempts to attack Puntland, I will return to the country and I promise to eradicate them."

SANA’A, Yemen Feb 1 (Garowe Online) - Somalia's former leader has advised the incoming president to confront anti-peace groups, namely Al Shabaab hardliners, Radio Garowe reports.

Col. Abdullahi Yusuf resigned as Somalia's interim president in December, after four years in power that saw the rise of the country's Islamic Courts movement.

Col. Abdullahi Yusuf, ex-Somali President
In a Sunday interview with Al Arabiya, ex-President Yusuf said "many problems" face the new administration, led by a former Islamic Courts chief, Sheikh Sharif Ahmed.

"Al Shabaab is a group that is against peace in Somalia and therefore is the number one problem facing Sheikh Sharif," the former president noted.

Yusuf described Al Shabaab, a breakaway faction of the Islamic Courts, as a "terrorist group," while suggesting that the especially insurgents are strong in the capital, Mogadishu.

When asked if he retired from politics, Yusuf said: "If Al Shabaab attempts to attack Puntland, I will return to the country and I promise to eradicate them."

Yusuf hails from the Puntland region, in northeastern Somalia. He made no mention of new Puntland leader Dr. Abdirahman Farole's refusal to recognize Sheikh Sharif as Somali president.

FAH1223 Nothing especial about meeting the old man. I still remember the day, I think it was 4th February 2005 and I was in The Intercontinental Hotel Nairobi attending An Actuarial and Analyst Conference. Funny thing about this meeting was that Abdullahi Yusuf was sitting with Nur Adde and another dude also from The Somali Red Crescent Society. I think he's the head of Somali Red Crescent Society, don't really recall his name and they were having coffee in the small business lounges. I came out for snacks break and another dude with them(name withheld) recognized me and introduced them to me.

Back than I was still a student but walahi they left an impression on me, both of them. Something about politicians, their charisma and savviness.

Disclosure: This by all means does not mean I endorse politicians. I still despise all backstabbing self serving politicians.

aerosmith, have you hear about how AY eats? My grandpa is his childhood friend and dined with him in Nairobi in 2005.

apparently old man still retained his soldier habits. the way he eats, gof kasta aa la yaaba, he finishes his plate before you can blink, but does it with the utmost ease and dignity. he also sleeps just a few hours a day.

I never met him, but he knows about me. His wife is my direct aunt.

I don't really recall much man, but it was obviously a back room meeting with all hush hush. The little I do remember was they were mainly taking general and advising the than president on how to politically navigate the system and get support of International Community. Who would have thought couple years down the line Nur Adde himself will take the helm.

Speaking of Nur Adde, what will happen to him. Will he be returning to his old post in Somali Red Crescent if the new president does not make him part of his administration.

Your take and others on this.

lol@Starscream, I do not bro, but its possible.
