Garowe:(23rd -April-2011) President Abdirahman officially launched the Puntland Immunization days in a public ceremony held at headquarters of the Puntland Ministry of Health this morning. President Abdirahman presented a speech on behalf of 29 member states of the Arab league including the Somali republic on the commemoration of the worldwide event.

The ceremony was attended by senior authorities from the Puntland cabinet, members of the house of parliament, representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), staff from the Ministry of Health and other invited guests.

The master of ceremonies was the Director General (DG) of the Ministry of Health. He opened the proceedings with a short speech that reported on activities carried out by the Ministry during the past 3 months. The activities included emergency medical deliveries to drought affected communities and health posts located in the outposts.

In his speech to the public, the president addressed health authorities and thanked them for fulfilling their mandated obligations. He added that he was happy with the development made in the health sector by the Ministry.

"Immunization days are widely implemented globally," President Abdirahman said .

Finally, the head of the state called upon all concerned to extend emergency relief to persons and locations affected by the prolonged hydro meteorological drought in the regions of Puntland.

"There is an urgent need for medical supplies and experienced health personnel in drought affected areas," the Puntland President urged.

The official launching of the Puntland Vaccination Days was marked when President Abdirahman Mahamed Mahamud vaccinated the first child in front of the public. The President urged expectant mothers and parents of children to take part in the state-wide campaign.
