Contrary to what you may think I am a Puntland supporter, I disagree with the current government but I do not wish badly for Puntland just because I disagreed with Cadde Muuse and I disagree now with Faroole. Puntland is facing possibly the greatest challenge of its existence. People have downplayed the seriousness and said that nothing is going on for years, but pretending it isn't there isn't going to cause the problems to just go away. Puntlanders need to get serious about addressing the issues that Puntland faces.

I see the issues as primarily three issues, but really the other two issues are an outgrowth of the first issue.
Democracy and power, the process in selecting Puntland's government and especially the presidency is flawed, and the system currently does not benefit the majority of Harti clans. Unless you are Maxamuud Saleebaan, the presidency is essentially out of the question, and the current government structure means that the only position with any power is the president. This is essentially driving clans out of Puntland as they decide it's better to risk going it alone than remain in Puntland. People blame Faroole for this but this process began a long time ago, and is only coming to a crisis point now. The electoral process needs to change to one of popular vote in a universal franchise.
The two other issues are the issue over oil and mineral exploration, and piracy, but to be honest the political system (and the corruption and inequality it breeds) is responsible for this.
Puntland needs to fix their democracy before it's too late.

The Next president of Puntland will be a Mahamoud salebaan and the drama will continue. 12years is a long time to wait. The first non Mahamoud salebaan president will have the right to remain in power for 3 terms anything less will result in civilwar. The next president will have the right to divert all Pland money to his home town and that is also fair right?
I believe the only way to safe Pland from civil war is to abolish the seat of presidency and to allow every city/town/village to have a governer of equal power all serving the president in moqadishu Sheik Shariff.
This will give the opportunity for a Harti Member to gain the seat of presidency once again in moqadishu.
