The president of Somalia’s Puntland government has fired the interim governor of Mudug region, citing “inability to fulfill duties,” Radio Garowe reports.

A presidential decree dated 24 August 2011 stated that Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole has revoked the governor’s position from Mr. Mohamud Abdirahman ‘Uuke.
Mr. Ahmed Aideed, Deputy Chief of Cabinet at the President’s Office, presented the presidential decree to Puntland-based media agencies.
Mr. Mohamud Abdirahman ‘Uuke, who was appointed as Mudug’s interim governor last April, was fired and replaced by incoming governor Mr. Mohamed Yusuf Jama. The new governor will be aided by two deputy governors, namely Mr. Farhan Ali Hersi and Mr. Ahmed Muse Nur.
Furthermore, the presidential decree appointed a new mayor and deputy mayor for Galkayo city, Mr. Saeed Abdi Farah and Mr. Dahir Mohamud Muse, respectively.
Mr. Farhan Ali Hersi and Mr. Dahir Mohamud Muse were senior officials of the outgoing governor’s administration and have been retained as senior officials of the new administration.
The new administration of Galkayo city will hold the position temporarily until a new District Council is elected.
Galkayo is located at Puntland’s southern gate and connects the state to south-central regions plagued by chronic insecurity.
Puntland, located at Somalia’s northeastern corner, is home to over 3million people and has its own government, polices and security forces. The state supports federal system in Somalia and has enjoyed relative stability since the political collapse of the Somali nation-state in 1991.
