We, the Puntland Concern Group, are herein registering our dismay with relevant parties in the region, and are hereby gravely troubled by learning of Puntland's receptivity to the deployment of AMISOM troops in Puntland State of Somalia, Galkacyo in particular.
Pursuant to that, we are strongly opposed to any deployment of AMISOM troops in Puntland, and are appealing to the Puntland Parliament, traditional Elders, and the general public to strongly resist what we consider a direct defamation against Puntland's reputation as a peaceful and developing region in an otherwise troubled Somalia. We believe that no one in Puntland, people of Galkacyo in particular desire AMISOM soldiers in the State.
Further, we neither understand the rationale for the deployment, nor do we see any value in its enactment; to the contrary, its dire implications, security in particular is what concerns us above all else.
We furthermore, call upon the general public, Diaspora in particular to rise against the said decision, register their discontent, and voice their opposition at once.
We call upon H.E President Abdirahman Mohamed Faroole to reconsider, consult members of the Parliament, engage traditional Elders, and seek the wisdom of senior politicians in such matters of national interest; unilateral decision-making of matters of this stature whatever the motive at the time, are unacceptable and affront to the national interest.
And finally, we are strongly opposed to any deployment of AMISOM troops in Puntland simply because it is ill-advised, entices underground terrorist elements, and is counter-productive.
