Check this article, old (2006) but still makes a point

I was reminded of the resource curse/paradox of plenty after reading the post

Thank you for the paper. It is very obvious that if this oil is found, if any is found, it will pit the people against the government. In a region with corrupt, unstable, ineffective governments, it can easily happen and not only that but because of the increased concentrated activity surrounding the new oil sector, all other economic sectors will be neglected. This will only compound the problem.

I've never met a Somali economist before and I think its because the brain of a genuine economist and a Somali are radically different.

Firstly, Somalis are generally not the brightest people. They are not patient and want results right away.

An economist on the other hand are very intelligent, very patient when it comes to proving their hypothesis and would gladly wait years for their results to prove they were correct.

Economics as a field is strange though. Its a mix of probability and studying human behavior. It all depends on people's habits in the marketplace.

I wish I was an economist though. Very lucrative career and very professional.

They also run the world
