GAROWE-26 Feb. 2012 The government of Puntland said the merger between Galgala militants and al-Shabab would not have any influence on Puntland and Galgala militants have already been made powerless by Puntland forces.
Puntland government spokesman Ahmed Libah Joore said that the merger between al-Shabab and Galgala militant group in mountainous areas of Sanag region in Puntland was not a big news because they were already part of each other.
“ It doesn’t have any effect on Puntland’s peace and tranquility and the armed forces who already made them weak are ready to fight them ” he said..
Supporting the London conference which called on dismantling al-Shabab he said Puntland has already cleaned Galgala militant group from Puntland.
The militia group announced they had joined al Shabaab , and threatened to destabilize Puntland’s security ..
The union of two groups comes as the al-Shabab itself being weakened, by both Amisom and TFG forces around the Somali capital, Mogadishu, and losing territory to Kenyan and Ethiopian forces in parts of southern and central Somalia.
Puntland security officials have previously said the Islamist militia camped out in the Golis hills outside the port city of Bosasso is led by Yasin Khalid Osman.
