Somali Prime Minister Abdweli Mohamed Ali ‘Gaas’ spoke today on the conditions of the Garowe Principles, Federalism, and resource exploration in Somalia, and lifted the veil on Somalia’s current situation with concern to the resource trade.
Ali stated that the Garowe Principles and the agreements on the post-transitional phase, known as the ‘Roadmap’, were set in stone and waiting to go through parliament. When asked about oil exploration in the Puntland federal state, he said that he was excited about operations and that even though the Transitional Federal Government itself had no control over the process it was better for the oil to be exploited than to just sit underground.
When asked about any disproportional ownership of the resources by the exploration companies, he debunked the myths and stated that like all private enterprises the oil companies will get paid according to their services, and that the Somali parties will take the lion’s share of the resource revenues.
