Plane has accident in Abdullai Yusuf's int airport

Postby SahanGalbeed » Mon Apr 30, 2012 1:13 pm

in Galkacayo Puntland.
A Jubba Airways Antonov AN-24, passenger flight from Hargeisa (Somaliland/Somalia) to Galkayo (Puntland/Somalia) with 32 passengers and 4 (mostly Russian) crew, blew both right hand main gear tyres upon touchdown on Galkayo's main runway, veered off the runway and came to rest off the runway broken in two parts at 14:55L (11:55Z), reportedly the right wing separated from the aircraft. No injuries occurred, the aircraft received substantial damage.

RBC Radio Puntland cites Puntland's Minister of Aviation Mr. Gamute stating "The error was that the pilot of aircraft could not manage to land the plane properly so it broke outside the airport. But luckily no one was hurt."

Puntlandi.com cites Puntland's Minister of Aviation Mr. Gamute confirming a wing received damage in response to their report of a wing having separated from the aircraft.

Attempts by The Aviation Herald to reach Jubba Airways have failed so far due to not working e-mail addresses, not working phone numbers and not working fax numbers in all their offices published on their website (in addition to a more than incomplete schedule, that for example lists several arrivals at Hargeisa but nearly no departures for Saturdays, certainly no flight to Galkayo).

Attempts by The Aviation Herald to reach Puntland's Ministry of Aviation have so far not succeeded, too.

No Metars and no local weather data are available.

Galkayo Airport offers two runways 05L/23R and 05R/23L of 3010 meters/9860 feet length each.

Is the airstrip faulty ?
Mr. Abdiwahab declined initial reports claiming that the fault was the pilot. “We as Jubba Airways can do nothing like this time. You know the Galkayo airport is not constructed.” He blamed.

The sort of planes Jubba Airways operates in Puntland should be torpedoed, after flying in one of them I rather see the damn thing up in flames then have them banned. What an experience I had flying in one of them outdated planes that they run. Once you step inside, the heat just hits you. Sweat ran down your back. There was not a single AC and chairs are falling apart. And then there was that horrible smell of animals... inalilaah! All this I had to put up with while we were on the ground.

The experience in the air was highly unstable, turbulent and bumpy ride... it was scary to say the least. I would never recommend anyone to put their beloved ones through such terror especially children and elderly.

After what seemed like forever, we landed in Bosaso International airport after and hour or so of hell. Everyone was eager to get out and smell the fresh air of Bosaso. Once on the ground, a funny fellow from Sweden chanted "taan ilahay baa waada maha diyaarad." I was in Bosaso for the first time and I forgot about Jubba Airways and its insanity.

Since coming back to Seattle I've learned that the damn thing is banned from flying into the modern world's air space like the EU's. The only air it see's out of Africa is Dubai's. Even in Dubai Jubba Airways is one of those never-before-heard-of airlines parked on the opposite end of the airport away from the modern world's traveler's eye sight.
