For anyone who has ever lived in the GCC, Arab League countries are not allowed to operate as maids. It is reserved for Indian, Ethiopian, Filipino, others. Yemeni, Syrian, other Arab League countries who are also in disastrous situations would never sanction this. Although I was born in America I kindly claim Somali in the region. Right off the top these are not the equivalent of ‘jobs’ working at merry maids back in the States as I take it you imagine. You guys really need to speak to people who have worked here, please don’t take my word for it. To make long story short they are treated essentially as ‘what the right hand possesses’ which provides demonic moral self-cover to where even sexual assault is morally justified by the maid sponsors. Their passports get confiscated, any mistreatment that happens assault, torture, rape, they cannot go to the authorities to complain. Many times their phone gets taken away, and they can’t even make calls. The very few times they may somehow manage to escape, talk to the authorities their word is never taken as the sponsor knows the police, comes from a local tribe, etc. Very little, to no enforced laws that govern their treatment


I 100% understand many will do it but countries with similar situations like Ethiopia did ban it in certain countries. All I’m saying is the frigging Government shouldn’t sanction it, or sign off on it because it justifies the dehumanization by providing State approval for whatever most likely horrible things happen. It is upon all Somalis abroad, and domestic to guard our women’s honor both both by addressing the root cause (Poverty), advancing our a financial ability to at least take care of our extended families back home, especially the vulnerable. All I’m saying is to no not exacerbate by giving an official Government seal of approval.

Lastly I’ll just repeat I am more cognizant of this then you, as I see with my own eyes every day the contempt, and undignified way they are treated. Also you are being delusional if you think they’re are not many, many Somalis who share these same thoughts. I advise you to speak to people who work in the region to get better depth of understanding.

To put a ribbon on this, Let’s agree on this. As long as Somalia is a failed State, with poor to non-existent institutions, the lives of all of us, including our womenfolk will be shyt.

So let’s focus our energy on the real solution which is building something resembling a Government. Something like this slavery aka domestic worker idea isn’t the real remedy which I’m sure is not what you are implying. I’ll also respectfully disagree with you regarding the return on investment on this idea, which I believe is ultimately a negative return.

People don’t know as recently as like 50-60 years ago actual real madow slaves existed in the gulf. I’m talking about ones that were purchased.
