Kismayo was the unlucky city that was settled by various humble somali clans:

1- Biyo Maal
2- Sheekhaal
3- Gaal Jecel
4- Baajuun

And then when it was made into a colony by the British the inland Daarood ( Mareexaan, Ogaaden) came and settled in the city and recurited as spies and and foot soldiers the Kuumbo found out the benefit of been the colonial lackies while the original populations were apoltical. By the time Jubaland was made an italian colony the Harti came on boats and the Kuumbos attached their interest with the Italians, then in 1960 Adan Cade promoted a Kuumbo as prime minister which in retrun brought more Kuumbos and Afweyne after 1969 planted Mareexaan from Caabud Waaq into the fertile land of Kismaayo and few Ogaadeen refugee camps were built in an attempt to transplant Daarood into a land where they had no history.

Now during the civil war armed Daarood battled one another while the original inhabitant faded, in short Kismaayo is a Free Land and since Hawiye and Raxanweyn are a bit too late to the game the Daaroood had a free reign on Kismaayo, had any armed clan chalanged the daarood usurpers Kismaayo's history would be much different.

The funniest thing is the Kuumbos claim of Axmed Guray (1470-1537) while at the same claiming decent from the son of Ismaaciil Al-Jabarti , notice Ismaaciil al-Jabrti died in Yemen in 1404 , which means Axmed Guray's father Ibraahim and Ismaaciil Al-Jabrti were contemprary.
