"The Reer Hassan (often termed as Reer Guuri) branch of Mareexaan revolted against the British in 1913-4 in Jubbaland. They sent out a plea for support to the Northern Mareexaans in British Somaliland. Acting upon the request, they sent out a party of Mareexaan forces to assist the Reer Guuri against the British. Upon arriving in Jubbaland, they were known as the Galti forces (i.e. The Strangers). The Galti Mareexaan were known to have been the first Somalis to bring rifles in to Jubbaland in order to rise against the Colonialists. They have started raiding the 'friendly' tribes of the Garre and Ogaadeen Somalis as a punishment and warning for those who work with the British."
