LaasQorey Port Project: Nice Site, check it

Really cool, IMO. They're trying to save $8million, and they currently have around 4 mil I think.

Port is really beautiful, probably the second best looking coast next to Eyl, very classical looking, it just needs infrastructure.

Paidmonk,

They got the plans but need a lot more money to make it a reality.

If there was a government in Somalia, there would be more funds for new ports all over Somalia.

I definitely agree with AW. Construction of quality ports and things of that nature are the responsibility of a Government. Unfortunately in its absence the diaspora will have to be the financiers. Confused

Money won't be a problem, they're very optimistic, they're halfway there. Why do you think they're so confident about Maakhir; they know this coast will become a reality.

As for MJ's taking this badly, I doubt it; its just a burden off our shoulders, one less district to worry about, now they're totally on their own. up

Gurey,

El Maan port was more of a natural harbor than an actual functioning port. Ships were offloaded using smaller boats and offloaded by hand.

To build a deepwater port, functional for heavy tonnage ships, requires major money. Somalia is curse with having a high continental shelf which would have to be dug up to deepen the sea floor.

A decent port would run about $5-10 million.

$5 million to $10 million sounds a bit too little
