Hiiraanboy must be sick comparing Garoowe to B.W.

Postby paidmonk » Thu Aug 09, 2007 3:49 pm

The last time he compared the two was on his own biased check. He took a close-up snapshot of Beletweyn on Google Earth and took a distant one of Garoowe; well, I went back and took a closer look, both locations at 3000ft in the air.

And guess the results---its not even size here that's up for debate, its what's inside the city. In Beletweyn, I couldn't find a single commercial building; just one cariish next to the other, next to the other, and a few farms along a river, not a single building bigger than a hut; the whole place looks to be one huge village.

Then I went and checked Garoowe, and as hellish as the place looks, the houses were 5x the size of those in Beletweyn, not to mention there were TONS of gates around specific properties, looking to be public offices, schools, hospitals, or just a fence to outline extra property being added to the current area.

No competition, absolutely none. Even check the height at which I took the screenshots, in fact I took my snapshots closer up in Beletweyn because the houses were so damn small.

Here's a screenshot of Garoowe, with the commercial buildings outlined in red:

And here is Beletweyn's busiest sector:

You must be retarded, comparing Garowe to Beledweyne (the name says it all) Laughing

There is no competition, Beledweyne is larger, and has a larger population. It competes with Kismaanyo for the third place. Garowe is in the same league as Jowhar. Junior league Laughing

This man tooks one picture of one section in Beledweyne and compares it to Garowe. You cannot take a close up picture of the whole Beledweyne, only one section fits in a close up snapshot.

And the section I took a snapshot of is the busiest in Beletweyn. Laughing

Even the f'ucking houses are smaller than Garoowe, and I took the Beletweyn snapshot 800 feet closer, what a shame! Laughing

If you want to do an economic comparison, I can point to you that the average Garoowe resident has a 5x larger salary than the average Beletweyn resident, and lets not forget---there are no more than six commercial buildings in all of Beletweyn, I checked.

Download google earth if you don't have it, and do the check yourself, from one side to the next, NO competition. Sad

The business centre is between the two bridges fool. The snapshot of yours is just a residential centre.

Anyways, you must be high tonight comparing tropical Beledweyne to dusty ville.

You should have sticked to Jamaame, perhaps more beautiful than dusty ville. Laughing

I can't see a single commercial center/building, the biggest thing on the Beletweyn map is a farm. That's it.

Show me your screenshot. The place looks dense with refugees, not businessmen.

Well I don't know how to post screenshots...but you can see it for yourself...between the two bridges.

Anyways if you said Bosaso it would be a plausible comparison,,,,but Garowe? Wallahi I think even Jowhar beats it...compact, nice urban planning and around it agricultural lands. up

Guys since when was "size" the determing factor of the importance of a city? The important factors to consider are economic advantage of the city, strategic location of the city, standard of living and infrastructure. What city has more huts, or what city has a bigger population should be irrelevant. Arrow

Somaliweyn,

I zoomed in 1000ft closer and I still see a bunch of tiny cariishes, I found the "commercial district" and it looks nothing more than a farming village with a dirty swamp surrounding it.

I marked a few of them, but the rest, all of it combined is like six buildings like I said, compared to an entire quarter of Garoowe dedicated to commercial business, schools, hospitals, etc, and not between some neglected bridges over a forgotten swamp.

Luq, too bad we don't have statistics as ''living standards'' Laughing

But in any other aspect, Beledweyne is not in the same league as Garowe. Economically, population wise, infrastructre, strategic location, climate, and pleasant to live in.

Paid,

I still don't see the two bridges on your snapshot. Your not close to it. Dirty swamp? I know Garowe does not have a river so why hate?

Garowe is not in the same league. Let it rest, its like comparing Bulo Burte to Bosaso Laughing

Liqaaye,

After Mogadishu, i would only live in Beledweyne. Mogadishu for its metropolitan character, and Beledweyne for its beauty.

Somaliweyn, I have the living standards stats.

44% of Beletweyn had humanitarian emergency, compared to 9% in Garoowe.

http://www.fsausomali.org/fileadmin/uploads/pdf/836.pdf

Also, when it comes to local goods that people buy, like Milk, its cheaper in Garoowe than Beletweyn, and when it comes to more expensive things, like Camels, its sold to foreigners for 4 million shillings a piece, as opposed to 1.8 million shillings in Beletweyn.

http://www.fsausomali.org/fileadmin/uploads/pdf/893.pdf

There are two major hospitals in Garoowe and only one in "big, great" Beletweyn.

http://www.fsausomali.org/fileadmin/uploads/pdf/172.pdf
----------------------------------------------------------------

Sounds like a GREAT place....Garoowe that is. Smile

...then again, they can't afford cars in Beletweyn. Surprised

Paid,

You need to learn how to interpret raw data.

Milk is cheaper in Garowe because Central regions and most arid regions are known for the large gattle and sheep. Milk coming from these animals=cheap milk.

Beledweyne has cheaper fruits and vegetables...because of the wide availability of it. And Beledweyne has a larger population of Camels compared to cattle/sheep thus driving prices of Camels down. In Garowe camels are relativelly smaller in numbers compared to cattle/sheep etc. Thus camels=expensive.

Gas cheaper=closer to Middle east, Bosaso importing it, transport costs lower thus prices low. Beledweyne, transport costs high=price high.

Just little economics 101 Laughing
