Somaliland and Somalia union conference of Somalinet

If asked the question " do you want the Somali lands of Somalia and Somaliland to be united?" i would think that the majority of Puntlanders and those from Somalia would say "yes" while the majority of Somalilanders would say "no".

This leads to the widley held assumption that the obstacle to a united Somalia is the Somaliland community. I dont agree with this assumption for the simple fact that the SNM did not start of as a sepratist movement but rather a NATIONAL liberation front to liberate the nation of Somalia from the dictator that was Mohamed Said Barre. The SNM decided to go it alone and to revoke the union because of the actions of Ali Mahdi who installed himself as president uniterally.

Every body knows that in Somaliland attrocities where commited and thousands upon thousands of Somali citizens were massacred by the forces that were meant to protect them. So its completely understandably why Somalilanders would be coutious with talk of union with Somalia.

Now my question to all UNIONIST on this site is that "if you really want Somalia to be united strong and thriving why do you not make any attempts at reconciliation?"
How can you say "i love somali people", "i want all somali's to be united" and then condone the acts of massacre commited against Somalis by people like Ali Samatar, Morgan and Gani.

That argument is really flawed when you elected the very same people who committed those crimes.

The Government, SNM, SSDF, USC etc all committed crimes, and crimes are still being committed today by TFG and Al-Shabab.

We are talking about systematic attrocities planned at a high level by the government and executed with chilling efficiency. Morgan introduced the "final solution" to the "isaaq problem" which was the " the total oblitration of the Isaaq tribe." Now how can some body say that they love Somali people and support or condone the actions of the previous Somali goverment.

Let's not dwell on " Oh you installed Rayale as president". First of all he was not a senior goverment official and secondly this should serve as a sign of the forgiving nature of the Somaliland people. If the perpetrators of the crimes admited their guilt and asked for forgiveness rather than denying or staying quite and carrying on about their business with the backing of their tribes I'm sure this would have all been layed to rest along time ago.

Let me tell you something Mr SLJOOFAY. If I were a citizen of Somalia I would want to unite with Somaliland for many different reasons . Now given the fact I am not ,I have called here for all fair and sensible Somalis in the South to reexamine their position.
SOMALIA is cursed , it has almost never functioned as a viable political entity .People nowadays are fairly in general more informed and aware about the world outside their immediate community and they tend to aspire to a greater participation in the discussion if not the decision making process that affects us all.
Therefore , if the unity of all Somalis is truely their strongest wish , the reasonable people of Somalia should immediately ask for the dissolution of the TFG and be placed under a Somaliland mandate .

Sahan, would the Somaliland people accept and take the responsibility of managing Somalia's affairs inorder to help the southerners while those who commited the attrocities are still being harbourd there.

My questions to all "Unionist" who are completly opposed to Somaliland recogtion and insist that Somaliland should be part of Somalia are:

1) Why shud we agree to unite with Somalia while u still support and protect "mass murderers"

2) What has Somalia got to offer Somaliland that Somaliland cannot provide for itself.

If any of you can answers those questions for me without any "tribe bashing" and caay.

I think is wrong that you even come with these points to us. I have never killed anyone, I don't believe in killing innocent people, and I won't defend those who committed those crimes.

This your problem saxiib, you want to blame everything on the faqash kid from south who doesn't know anything about history of Somalia. Yet some of those guys that executed those atrocities where welcomed as heros in Hargeisa and some become leaders in the government. I don't really get that.

I realy dont understand this obsession with Somaliland, when the real issue and problem is Somalia. The simple fact that people keep going on about Somaliand when instead all that attention should be directed at Somalia speaks volumes above all the lip service that is been paid to SOOMAALINIMO. Maybe if all the energy spend in why Somaliland is going seperate, is invested in Soomaalia and a viable form of government set up, then there should be a reason to talk about Somaliland and accordingly thing could be set in motion for talks of re-unification. But as things stand this is not the time nor is it prudent to interfere with the afairs of Soomaaliland as this will only serve to drive a wedge between brothers of the north and south.
