Should Prime Minister Farmaajo pull a coup?

Postby Voltage » Thu Jun 09, 2011 5:54 pm

Perhaps this question is not a legitimate one but it seems the protests today were led by the armed forces according to the BBC and VOA Somali and now Yalaxoow says he talked to an important figure in Xamar who said the military whose morale and discipline was strengthened by Farmaajo are the most pissed off from the rumors Farmaajo might resign.

Now the Commander of the Armed Forces is General Abdikhadir Sheekh Ali Diini, a cousin of Farmaajo's from Columbus, Ohio and the prime minister seems to have gotten both the support of the general Mogadishu populace including tribal leaders, the parliament which today said will not accept the Kampala Accord, and the military commanded by Gen. Diini are the ones out into the streets leading the protests.

He should just arrest Sheikh Sharif and Sharif Hassan in their residencies and temporarily dissolve the parliament while a transition to proper governance is being set up. If only this was the Somalia of the past. :|

If he were to pull a coup, he should make a democratic election after, otherwise it'll be the same mistake as 1969, people are happy with president's they vote for.

Coup with what?
His army but most importantly his people, that showed their support for him and continue to support him. I think a coup is possible.

Also don't forget, the military temporarily took over Villa Somalia for more than six hours nor couldn't AMISOM do anything, as many of their vehicles were blocked by the people. I was there and witnessed it.

I would salute Guulwade Farmajo if he did that. He would have done the same honorable thing Jalle Siyaad did who saved Somalia and delayed the inevitable civil war by 21 years.

His army is nothing man, first of all they aren't loyal to him but their respective warlords, he has no money to pay them independently from the TFG life support system (AU, UN etc), and second of all even if they were, his coup that he started in the morning would be put down by lunchtime by AMISOM.

And if he WAS successful, he would have weakened his own and AMISOM's forces enough that Shabaab would just sweep in and take over.

AMISOM is there for two reasons, one to fight off Shabaab, but also to keep the TFG from acting too independently.
