Las Anod — The break away republic of Somaliland on Monday was called for withdrawing its troops from the town of Las Anod, the regional capital of Sool.

After key and lengthy meeting in Las Anod town, Local elders and shrewd said the presence of Somaliland forces in the region is a great problem on the residents there.

They accused the self declared republic of using the region a base to launch raids on other regions in northern Somalia.

The local elders urged the semi-autonomous state of Puntland interfering the matter and try to remove the burden of Somaliland on the region of Sool.

In the last few months, there had been repetitive battles locals have had with Somaliland forces in the region in an attempt to liberate the towns and areas.

Not Quite. Previously Somaliland enjoyed the support of 2 out of 3 major dhulbahante subclans that inhabit Laascaanood. Today that support has dwindled significantly. Even the brother of Xaabsade has come out strongly against Somaliland. Boorama is under state of emergency as the Gadabuursi population have become increasingly restive. Their diaspora has created Awdal State and inside the country the GAdabuursi youth have organized superbly to mount a non-violent anti Somaliland campaign. 5 Youths were jailed 2 days ago by the Somaliland Secret Police.

The election of Siilaanyo was the decisive element in this unravelling of the Somaliland project. Whereas previously The Gadabuursi and pro-Somaliland dhulbahante were reassured by Riyaale's caution and neutrality they are increasingly becoming spooked by Siilaanyo and his parochial administration. Riyaale was the spearhead who banned the teaching of SNM history in Somaliland schools because he reasoned that although SNM history appeals to the Isaaq it will have a deleterious effect on Somaliland because it is a history that is appalling to non-Isaaq northern Tribes that Riyaale was trying to entice into Somaliland. He succeeded in this project by gaining overwhelming Gadabuursi support for Somaliland and a not insignificant support from Dhulbahante of Laascaanood region. All of his good work(Good for Somaliland, bad for us unionists) and Siilaanyo has given full vent to his SNM chauvinism
