Al-Shabaab Loses Ground In Gedo

The Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamaa fighters backed by the government troops have launched an offensive against the militant group al-Shabaab in Burdhubo district in Gedo region, security officials said on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters, a spokesman from the ASWJ claimed that the troops managed to capture the district following a fierce fighting that broke out in the district on Saturday night.

At least 6 al-Shabaab fighters were killed during the attack, the spokesman added.

Government vows to end al-Shabaab's resistance

In the capital Mogadishu, the commander of the Somali Armed Forces claimed the government was fully prepared to put an end the al-Shabaab's resistance in the capital.

He said the government is planning to launch a full-scale offensive within the coming weeks.
