Somaliland and Puntland...

Postby haxxor » Thu Aug 04, 2011 10:51 am

In short, Somaliland is a place that does not want to be part of Somalia, Puntland is also a place but it wants to stay as a part of Somalia but wants to have their own government and laws.

So, lately, I have been hearing reports that many puntlanders are turning away from Somalia and some even wants Puntland to be separated from Somalia.

One thing I don't get is, why can't Puntland and Somaliland merge if they want to be separated from Somalia, there's no point being separate because they have the exactly same aim and this is it what they are looking for. Basically, western countries will laugh in Somalia and its regions in its face if Puntland decides to ask for independence.

There must be something that prevents them merging, I am thinking it's tribalism.

Somaliland is for Isaaq

Puntland is for Majeerteen

Gadabursi and other Harti have a minority stake in those entities

They are clan based regional administrations and that is why they won't merge

Puntland declaring independence will just be another annoyance to the international community as it relates to the mess that's called Somalia. It'll also probably just turn heads away from recognizing Somaliland in the process, even though Somaliland has the old ex-British protectorate history.

But then again, since SL and PL are so tribal and hateful of each other... I wouldn't be surprised if Puntland did that.

Imagine if both of them were indepedent countries? Their whole budgets would go to military and they'd keep fighting in the Sanaag/Sool area forever.

I have nothing per se against Puntland but we're claiming our sovereignty on the former colonial borders , just like any other country in Africa . Puntland as far as I know wasn't part of the British Somaliland . Issaq , gadabursi , majeeten , other harti ...is all "huuhaa" .
There is really nothing I can say or do about the way Puntland may or may not feel about Somalia , but we in Somaliland are a different case .
WE have decided to join Somalia in 1960 and WE have unilaterally decided to pull out in 1991 , end of the story .

Just what I thought. Tribalism can die now, I hate it as much as I hate Shaytan. It is embrassment to us as many ethnic groups in other countries can co-exist with each others peacefully and we can not.

That is why Somaliland and Puntland should merge to increase the chances being recognised as they both don't want to be part of Somalia. Only thing holding them back is tribalism. If they merged, there wouldn't be a fighting in those area.

Hmm, Somaliland will have unlikely chance getting recognised unless it merges with Puntland (If they decide that they don't want to be part of Somalia) then the chance will increase greatly.

A Union for 30 years, Independent for 20 years in an anarchic country.

If it gets to 30 years without recognition, you're in no-man's land.

There is no ethnic/genetic difference between Somalilander and Puntlanders, so if you're calling them ugly, so, technically if you're going call them ugly then you're ugly too.

I support an independent Somaliland and Puntland  A Somalia with Galkayo as its most northern border town and Ras Kiamboni as its most southern, would be a prosperous and peaceful place.

FAH you are looking at it as an outsider, and you do not understand how people think..

Why would we abandon this in the future if things are going so well rigth now?
we are very happy were we are and the future looks bright..

do you seriously think our mind will change?
